Ooooh, lots of suggestions for birthday ideas for my wife. I knew having this as a Weekend Assignment would be super-mega-ultra useful. Here are some of the suggestions I've been offered. In addition to these links, lots of people left suggestions right in the thread if you want to check them out, the original thread is here.

Perkysgrl suggests gift cards. Lots of gift cards.

SomeKindaPride: "Get her a pasta machine."

LurkyNat says "Queen Scalzi deserves a pirate ship worth of gold, an ocean full of black gold, three 60 karat diamonds, a trip to Peru and Argentina with John and Princess Athena in tow" but then offers some more practical gift ideas, for which I am thankful.

Adventuresinjuggling does some interesting product placement.

Parkhopper suggests a gift from the movies.

Ellipsis suggests a personalized book.

Mavarin suggests Disneyland. Interestingly, that's where I had my bachelor party. No, that's not a joke. I like Disneyland, and I'm not a strippers-and-lap-dances sort of guy. And even more interestingly we have Disneyland plans later this summer. So good call!

Teeisme57 offers suggestions for the lawn and more.

Mizdayspa thinks a day spa is a good idea. Makes sense, given her handle.

Nzforme tells me to think for myself, darn it; and then offers suggestions anyway. Because she's all cool like that.

Rockmom266 suggests a lovely compilation CD. It's a mix tape for the 21st Century!

Jillannemarie suggests a romantic getaway. So does Daily Snooze. Hmmm. Romantic getaway...

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions! You've given me lots to think about. I thank you -- and I suspect my wife will too.

  Hey John. You take a lot of photos. Why don't you put together a digital album for her. Maybe add some photos she doesn't know about. Nice pictures John! Nothing is better than memories that can last forever. Maybe create a movie of sorts. Perhaps family members can pitch in. My aunt did that for her sister and it was a hit. I'm sure you could be very creative with it. Just a thought.
