Hearing Nothing at the moment
AOL Journals has been doing some updating -- we had an update this morning from about 4-6am eastern, and according to Journals Editor Joe, we'll have a similar but shorter update tomorrow around the same time. (Update: in comments, Joe says we're still in beta on some things. So check the comments!)
One change you might notice is that if you go to "http://journals.aol.com/yourscreenname," where "yourscreenname" is actually your screen name, you'll now see a list of your Journals, a button to let you create a new entry (and another to delete your Journal -- be very careful with that one), and a list of stats about your Journal. For example, my information tells me that By The Way has had 3,844 entries (prior to this one) and that there have been over 30,000 comments posted here. Which leads me to think, damn, I sure do blather on.
Another new Journals-related feature: "Buddy Updates" for AIM -- now if you're running the latest version of the AIM software, you'll know when one of your buddies updates his or her public journals. AOL Journals tech dude PanzerJohn has all the details for you.

Why would they put a Create An Entry button next to a Delete Your Journal button???

Hey John, don't go jumping the gun -- the public list page isn't live on production yet, it's in beta though -- so, if you go to http://beta.journals.aol.com/
johnmscalzi/ you will see your public list page (where on the live version, you will only see the standard Journals error message).
One thing that it's important to note that people (other than you) will only see Journals that are public; or private Journals that they are on the roster of.
So, in other words, if you go to someone else's public list page, you won't see that person's private Journals listed, unless you are already a member of those private Journals.
I will be blogging about it a little more today.
Thanks -- Joe
