Hearing The Consequences of Falling -- kd lang

The Da Vinci Code, Blah Blah Blah

The Da Vinci Code, the movie, is being released this Friday, and it's catching flak from both ends of the spectrum in terms of science and religion. On the religious end, here's the Vatican saying that it's fine to see the film as long as you know it's not true, but if you think it has some relation to reality, there is going to be a problem. And here's the How Stuff Works site, explaining how the Da Vinci code doesn't work.

Personally I've never been under the impression that the book or the movie would ever be anything other than a hopefully fun fiction, so I suppose it's all clear for me to enjoy it or not on its own terms. Personally I expect the movie to be perfectly fine; you have to work hard to screw up a film starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard. And if it doesn't work, I will blame the Templars! Or something.

Do you think there's something to The Da Vinci Code? Or do you just plan to use it as an excuse to shovel in a lot of popcorn? Mmmm... popcorn.

Yes, John, I think there is something about the Da Vinci Code. It's called pre release publicity. When the movie closes at the theater, it won't matter until it comes out of DVD.

    Dearest John,
Wild..wild..wild.. oh and did I mentin Wild? I did an entry on the true Opus Dei..it was a non cruel, real life version of community service"using the sprit of Christ in one's work in the world". I think you are right; that people ahve to realise that these are not actual belief systems but just idle stories spun to entertain only.

I am against it.  It presents itself as the truth and it is not.

They're right about the French part, although the Christs then moved to Massachusetts, where the youngest daughter got into sports blogging... but we don't want to give the whole nut away just yet now, do we?

I like my film Jesus to be a little more "up in your face, like a wolly-haired black Jesus." I also like dinosaurs and karate in my films, but Jesus probably didn't get down like that.
