Hearing Denial -- Gramophone

"And Here We Are... In Delaware."

Interesting article in the SF Chronicle about how it's becoming cheaper to create a city in a computer than it is to film a movie in that city itself. In some ways this isn't news at all -- it's almost always cheaper to film in someplace other than some particular big cities (which is why Toronoto appears as New York City in so many films) and it has been for years -- but now we're at the point where a computer can so accurately model a current, modern city that you literally can't tell if it's real or a bunch of bits in a computer: No more "matte painting effect." As long as it makes me want to chow down more popcorn, I'm not going to complain.

I like when they used that machine on Seinfeld, and made New York City as white as upstate Vermont.

I remember when they filmed the movie "Major League" here in Milwaukee some time ago.  Apparently, they did this because it was a lot cheaper, AND because Milwaukee looked more like Cleveland than Cleveland did.

Yeah.  My people still have a hard time with that, but we've really cleaned up around here.

With the Canadian dollar being stronger than it has been for, oh I don't know, twenty years, you'll probably be seeing less of Toronto and Vancouver than you're used to. There was once a significant economic advantage to shooting in Canada. The scales are getting closer to even.

Great Wayne's World reference. Three point shot from half-court that was.
