Hearing Yellow -- Petra Haden and Bill Frisell
Apparently people in Edmonton are so excited about how their hockey team is doing that they're drinking the town dry:
As the Oilers battle their way to the Stanley Cup finals, bar owners in Edmonton are scrambling to keep beer on ice for thirsty hockey fans.
A report in the Edmonton Sun says managers of bars on Whyte Avenue, known as the Blue Mile during the hockey playoffs, have had to place emergency orders for beer.
Liquor suppliers have also told him that it's busier now than it is at Christmas, which is traditionally the busiest time of the year, the Sun reported MacDonald as saying.
Come on, Edmonton! It's only the Mighty Ducks. Save your drinking strength for the finals!
Now, Americans, before you start mocking the Canadians, just remember: Yes, they may be a bunch of boozy puck lovers, but at least they don't stage demolition derbies with farm equipment. Yup, that's a proud American tradition, all right.
