Hearing Papa Don't Preach -- Madonna
Whoa, Father's Day is this Sunday -- And I am so looking forward to my tie! -- and so let's make this a Father's Day-themed Weekend Assignment:
Weekend Assignment #116: Tell about some personality trait or quirk you got from your father -- or, if you're a father, some personality trait or quirk of yours you see in your kids.
Extra credit: Did you ever get dad a tie for Father's Day?
Because I'm just this way, I'll answer from both ends. From my dad, I got a distinct tendency to fidget and gesticulate. Some would say it's part-and-parcel with the Italian genes we have, and maybe it is, but I suspect some of it is just a Scalzi thing. Anyone who spends any sort of time with me gets used to me moving around a lot and making a lot of sweeping hand movements. I do try to be mindful of people's personal space, though. Honest.
From me, my daughter has developed a certain morbid sense of humor. That would explain pictures like this:

And, for that matter, this:

Yes, we both got a giggle over these. My wife (and her mother) worries about this sometimes.
Athena also gets from me creative ways to get other people to enable her laziness, as expressed by this I-swear-it's-true dialog from last night:
Athena: Daddy, would you go downstairs and get me some water?
Me: And you are unable to go downstairs and get your own water because?
Athena: Well, because I have become completely solid, and can only wobble, and that would make it dangerous for me to go down the stairs! (gives a sampling of her new, wobble-only state)
Me: Arrrrgh! Curse you and your cute ways!
Athena: So you'll get me some water?
Me: Yeah, all right.
See? How can you compete with such an endearing combination of cuteness and laziness? You can't. You just can't. And yes, she gets it from me. I can be very creative when I don't want to do something.
Extra credit: No, I never gave a tie for Father's Day, not have I received one. I personally believe the tie is being unfairly maligned as a rotten Father's Day gift, because I'm not sure I know anyone who has ever gotten (or received) a tie for Father's Day. Of course, by the end of this Weekend Assignment, I may have to revise that statement.
Your turn: Tell the world of a trait you share with dad, or that your kids share with you. It's the perfect way of showing we all get something from pop, whether we intend to or not. Write it up in your blog or journal and then come back here to leave a link.
And have a happy Father's Day! Don't give dad a tie.

I hope every father has a good father's day. Holidays like this is a good time to spend time with the ones you love no matter if its family or friends or people you just met. Remember all the grat times together.
When getting them a gift... You dont need to buy it, you can hand make something. This shows you took little more time and effort then buying them something. No mather what you get them more then mostly they will enjoy it because it came from the heart.
ENJOY YOUR DAY FATHERS!!!!

Whether Dad is a Sporty guy, Pop culture fanatic, or a Romantic fellow, 80sTees.com has gifts that will fit them all, as well as almost any budget.
· Give him the gift that will allow him to proudly show everyone that he’s the “Best Dad,” just like Homer Simpson – 9.99. He’ll especially love this one, as the Simpson’s Movie will be released later this summer.

· If it's T's for the gym the Sports Dad is interested in check out the Mighty Micks Gym Rocky T-shirt - $22.

· Maybe Rocky isn't his thing, but he relates better to America's dysfunctional dad, Al Bundy. Give him the shirt that will let him show his Polk High Pride - $20

· Or perhaps he feels that he’s the boss - and wants to let it be known by rocking a “Boss” Bruce Springsteen T-shirt - $24

· Nothing shows Dad’s romantic side quite like a “I Like Sex” Borat T-shirt - $20
