Hearing Maggie May -- Edwin McCain
Good morning! Yes, I know it's a monday but it can still be a good day anyway. Fortified as I am with a healthy breakfast (Coke Zero, a packet of toaster studel frosting and a multivitamin), I am prepared to provide you with a set of random, unrelated but interesting links to start you off on your day. Here we go!
* 500 Lost Beatles tapes are found! Apparently as part of warming up for the Let it Be sessions, the Fab Four did a bunch of cover songs ranging from "Great Balls of Fire" to "Maggie May." Will these lost tapes eventually see the light of day -- i.e., in commidifed CD form? Are you kidding?
* In the running for the worst thing ever: Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble shilling Winston cigarettes (YouTube link). Back when The Flintstones were nominally adult entertainment and you could advertise cigarettes on television. Listening to Barney wax rhapsodic about the mellow taste of these delightful sticks makes you glad he's now moved on to pitching breakfast cereals.
* Also in the running for the worst thing ever: Advertising laser-etched onto eggs. Eggs. Come on. Just let me eat my damn breakfast without having my food trying to sell me something. It's not too much to ask.
* Is this "Jack the Ripper"? Queen Victoria is off the hook!
* On one hand, it's the world's largest photograph. On the other hand, the picture is of a portable toilet. People are weird.
* Typecasting: Samuel L. Jackson as God. Just wait until he gets all Old Testament on you.
That's enough to keep you busy, no?
