Hearing Precious -- Depeche Mode

More than a year ago, I did a photo shoot in which we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope by picking great shots taken by the Hubble. This week I thought we'd go back into space:
Your Monday Photo Shoot: Show off a favorite space photo from NASA. Challenge for the folks who participated in the Photo Shoot last year: Pick a new photo you love. Given all the amazing photos from NASA over the years of space exploration, this shouldn't be difficult.
The reason I specify pictures from NASA, incidentally, is that they are not copyrighted, so you have every right to use them however you want. You already paid for them with your taxes after all (except for those of you who aren't from the US, but we won't tell if you won't).
Where to find pictures? Here are places to go:
* HubbleSite.org has a great gallery of Hubble photos.
* Enter search phrases at the Nasa Image Exchange (like "Mars" or "Titan") and the search engine will can NASA's collections for you.
* Also useful: Great Images in NASA, which is pretty self-explanatory.
When you find a picture you like, download onto your computer, resize it if necessary, and then upload it to your blog or journal. In addition to sharing some amazing pictures of the universe, I suspect you'll also spend some time just browsing. Which is part of my master plan all along. Bwa ha ha ha hah!
Now, about my picture above: It's a ring galaxy, specifically Hoag's Object Galaxy, possibly formed by the collision of two galaxies. The whole story is here. I think it's one of the most amazing sites out there in the cosmos, personally; I'm always fascinated by it.
Your turn: Get into space and pick that picture!

Sticking to Hubble in 2006, I chose the Hourglass Hula Hoop Galaxy, the Broken Shoelace Galaxy, and the planet Xena. - Karen
