Getting People to Comment

One thing that can be frustrating about writing a blog or journal is that people don't always comment on what you've written, and then you're left wondering if you're just talking to an empty room. Fact is, the vast majority of people who visit a site don't leave comments, and you'll need to entice them to do so.

Thus, this fellow presents 10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog. Many of these strike me as common sense -- and, not coincidentally, are things I do here: Invite people to comment and ask questions so commenters can respond, for example. Other suggestions I'd be more careful with: one he notes is "being controversial," which is fine if you're okay with being flamed, not so much if you're not. So don't feel you need to do every one of these.

Take a look at these and let me know what you think. Is this guy missing any tip you think he should have listed?

Well, one I tried worked.  A graphic of a duck's head with a gun to it..with a saying "Leave a comment or the duck gets it!"  Several people decided to save the duck.. not that I really would of anyway...LOL.....Sandi http://journals.aol.com/sdoscher458/LifeIsFullOfSurprises

I try to leave comments as I read, But I get so many alerts each day that sometimes I cannot keep up. I don't want to delete any of them, because I love them all. So I just do my best.

    Toodles,

Hello Mr. Scalzi.....I think those tips are helpful. I try to comment on many journals to let people know that I have read their journal and liked it. As you know I comment to your journal but I don't know if you have ever visited mine. I think it would be rude of me to visit someone's journal and not comment. Anyway thanks for the post. Take care.

I read the list and don't really have a comment but I'd feel guilty if I don't leave a comment so I'm just letting you know that I read it and thanks.  I'm not just a lurker.  LOL
