Hearing Sunny Came Home -- Shawn Colvin
More proof that despite being in college, some people just aren't that smart:
Young Americans searching for a legal high or just trying to stay alert may be abusing caffeine pills, sending some to the hospital, a study said on Monday.
The American College of Emergency Physicians said a review of records at the Illinois Poison Center in Chicago found more than 250 cases of medical complications from ingesting caffeine supplements, 12 percent of them requiring hospitalization, including treatment in intensive-care units.
The average age of those who had abused caffeine supplements over the course of the three years studied was 21. The research did not involve caffeine drinks such as coffee or cola.
I took caffeine pills once, when I was in high school and I needed to stay up to finish a paper. I took two No-Doz, and then spent the next six hours twitching almost uncontrollably, which kept me from actually typing. Which sort of defeated the whole purpose of taking the pills, I'd say. Since then I've avoided the whole caffeine pill scene, which I suspect is for the best.
An interesting point made in the article, from one of the doctors making the study: "Part of the problem is that people do not think of caffeine as a drug but rather as a food product." Probably because that's how we mostly get ours. Kids: Caffeine. It's a drug. Please try not to be silly about it.
Had any caffeiene today? I'm having some right now. Although not in pill form.

I love it. It's finally cheaper to do cocaine!

Oh. I do not function well without a couple of cups (potentially gallons) of morning coffee.
