Hearing Round of Blues -- Shawn Colvin
This amuses the heck out of me. SETI, the folks who are searching for alien intelligence out there among the stars, recently posted a note that it would have a major announcement, and schedule a press conference several days in the future. Almost immediately, people started freaking out: "OMG!! Teh alienz! They heeer!"
Which led to this amusing response from SETI:
For all of you out there who have been waving your arms around and speculating, this is not an announcement about finding a signal from ETs, the face on Mars, or anything else. It is far more mundane... Please ask yourself this: do you (1) really think that the SETI Institute would issue some sort of major announcement i.e. detection of a signal from another civilization - a week ahead of announcing it formally - and then (2) expect the media to sit on such amazing news - for an entire week? The next time y'all start to whip up a frenzy - out of thin air - use a little common sense before you hit [send].
Man, scientists rock. They're all logical and stuff.

Squirming like a worm in an apple.. (EYE ROLL) ha ha ha... Please don't send the aliens to my home!! Julie :)

Julie's squirming like Mel Gibson after a fifth of Cuervo. She's Anti-SETIc.
Sorry... I know... It was a stretch, but I couldn't resist.

Just for the record.. I have nothing against people who work for SETI, nor do I question their own intelligence. I hope I did not offend anyone by my earlier comment! Julie :)

The announcement was probably something like "Meatloaf will be available Tuesdays in the cafeteria, and tuna-casserole night has been moved to Sundays."
