Hearing How Long -- Ace
My understanding is that in a couple of weeks there will be an election of some sort here in the US, and that if you don't vote, you will be thrown into a wheat thresher. All right, fact is you won't be thrown into a wheat thresher if you don't vote, but by God, you should be, since participating in our democracy is your birthright as an American, and if you're not going to bother then you'll make the Founding Fathers cry dusty tears. It's true. The ghost of Thomas Jefferson told me.
For those of you who are planning to participate in that vote thingy, I know a lot of you like keeping up with the current polls, which tell you which candidates are finding favor with the voters at the moment. I have two sources for you to check out. The first: Pollster.com, which keeps up to date with all the latest polls for house, senate and governor races. It's all shiny and has a pretty, clean interface. It'll probably feed your poll addiction.
If you want a little commentary and context with your polls, AOL's Polls Blog is called "The Stump, and is doing a fine job of keeping up with things, sparing no opinion about the validity of the polls while they are at it (the current top entry is dismissing a Survey USA Ohio poll as "bogus," for example, and explains why). It also features lots of links to current news and commentary. It'll keep you busy for a while, I suspect.
Incidentally, AOL also has lots of Voter Information, so you can get up to speed on the races and issues in your neck of the woods. If you're not already swimming in such information, check it out. And remember to vote, okay?

Oy! I'll be glad when this election is over. Of course, I will vote, and it will be fascinating to watch the results, but the daily hammering of dreadful campaign ads is enough to make me want to move to Canada. It's become embarrassing to see how those we are to elect can so easily reduce themselves to such petty, juvenile attacks and senseless bickering. We need grown-ups running our nation, but unfortunately, they're getting harder and harder to find.
So, whether or not we vote, I think the Founding Fathers will still shed those dusty tears.
