Hearing It's only natural -- Crowded House
Inasmuch as they're in the news so much these days: How you're supposed to do a hanging. There are actual "drop tables" that let you know how much rope you need to do it efficiently. Incidentally, if you hang someone and their head pops clean off? Too much rope. Badly done. Strangely enough, you don't get a do-over after that.

Inasmuch as they're in the news so much these days: How you're supposed to do a hanging. There are actual "drop tables" that let you know how much rope you need to do it efficiently. Incidentally, if you hang someone and their head pops clean off? Too much rope. Badly done. Strangely enough, you don't get a do-over after that.

If someone was looking to hang me, I'd take the shotty and make them kill me first. You may as well go out like a soldier... and - what the Hell- you might just win the gunfight. I see Rambo do it all the time.
I forget the numbers, as I'm working from memory..... but Mary Surrat (the co-conspirator with your ancestor in the Lincoln murder) was the one person in US legal history not hung with a 7 turn noose.
Normally, the executioner makes 7 turns when looping a noose... but he didn't think Mary would hang, so he had to throw a noose together at the last instant.... and only got like 5 loops.
I copuld probably square those numbers if I read that link you provided, but I don't have time for that kind of s*it.
