Hearing Code Monkey -- Jonathan Coulton

Athena received a Chinese lantern from a friend to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year and wanted a candle to put into the bottom of the lantern. At which pointed I noted that I was not entirely comfortable with the idea of my eight-year-old daughter running around with an open flame inside a paper container. So I said no. But my daughter wasn't to be denied. Thus, a bit of surreptitious papercraft later, here is Athena with her lantern, over a candle. Note the triumphal look on Athena's face; she's always happy to get one over on her old man. I don't mind.

Do they have glowsticks in rural Ohio?

Buy the child a glowstick, for Christ's sake!

Ya know? I always wondered how those paper lanterns managed to survive. I mean, fire and paper? You're pretty much going to just get a whole lot of light all at once, and then it'll be dark again. Athena's idea is much better, in my opinion.
