Hearing Nothing at the moment

Today marks the 156th Weekend Assignment, which means -- using the powers of math! -- that we've been at this thing for three years now (more or less; lazy sod that I am, I may have skipped a sequential number here and there along the way. Even so). Three years is a long time to do anything, and yet I know that many of you have been plugging along doing the Weekend Assignments, if not every week, at least often enough to have built up a small library of assignments. So, let's plunge into those:
Weekend Assignment #156: Repost your favorite Weekend Assignment from the past three years. Or, if you can't choose, post the first Weekend Assignment you ever participated in.
Extra Credit: Should we keep doing the Weekend Assignments? Or after three years, should we give it a rest? Let me know; I'm curious.
I'm posting a bit of a two parter. The picture is from Weekend Assignment #84, in which I asked people to write a caption for what they thought was going on in the picture. But for me, one of my favorites Weekend Assignments was also the very first: "Share 25 totally random facts about yourself. Include at least one you've never shared before with anyone." These are the facts I listed:
1. My upper right incisor grew in three times: once as a baby tooth and twice as an adult tooth.
2. Related to this, I didn't lose the last of my baby teeth until I was a senior in high school. It was a molar.
3. I've never had a nightmare. At least, not that I can remember.
4. I originally wanted to name my daughter America. I was overruled by Krissy, and in retrospect, I have to say she was right.
5. My mental image of myself looks nothing like I actually look. My mental image of myself has more hair (this is the fact I've never shared before). Ironically, I think I look better with short hair.
6. I think I do a pretty good job of imitating voices of friends. Oddly enough, however, I don't think I've ever heard anyone try to imitate my voice. I suspect it's because I have a fairly non-descript speaking voice.
7. I was in a band in high school called Dead Rats Don't Fly. I played drums. We were, in a word, awful.
8. When I was growing up, I was devastated that I couldn't sing like Steve Perry, lead singer of Journey. Turns out I'm a bass, not a tenor. This was surprising to everyone. This is what my singing voice sounds like.
9. When I was 20, I lived on a houseboat in San Diego for a summer. It was super cool.
10. I can't bend my right pinky finger completely closed. This is due to a freak beach volleyball accident a few years ago.
11. I went to Jerusalem when I was in college and stuffed a wish into the cracks of the Wailing Wall -- the idea is that if you do that, the wish goes directly to God. I asked God to let me marry a particular person. Apparently, God said "no." Since I think the person I did marry is awesome, I'm okay with that. Thanks, God!
12. Also in Jerusalem, I ate cow brains. I won't be doing that again.
13. I once swatted a fly off of Harrison Ford's suit jacket. I don't think he was very happy about it.
14. I've been in two accidents where the car I was in was destroyed. I was not the one behind the wheel in either case. And yet among my friends, I have a reputation for being a bad driver.
15. The coolest gift I ever got was a drum set for my 17th birthday. A bunch of friends banded together to buy it for me. I still have the drumset, and I still play it.
16. I hate the sound of nails being clipped. Hate it. I resolve the issue for myself by biting my nails.
17. My first job out of college was as a movie critic for a newspaper. I'm pretty sure many of my friends hated me for that.
18. I have a reputation for being reasonably intelligent, which may even be true. But it's worth noting that my GPA in high school and college both was 2.8, which is in the C+/B- range. The reason for this was I tended to get As in the classes I liked and Ds in the classes I didn't. I don't recommend this educational strategy to others.
19. Related to this, I took seven years of German and can speak exactly one sentence of it: "Meine Deutsche ist sehr schlect" -- which means, "My German is very bad."
20. My childhood hero was Carl Sagan. What can I say, I'm a geek. Interestingly, as an adult I've become reasonably good friends with his son Nick, who is also a science fiction author.
21. My favorite color is green; my birthstone is emerald. The first is related to the second.
22. One of the biggest and stupidest arguments I ever got in with a close friend was whether the U2 album The Joshua Tree was one of the great rock albums of all time. He voted no; I voted yes. Since I am a professional music critic, I feel my vote wins.
23. I have officiated at four weddings and have two more coming up.
24. I can make myself cry. My wife hates this since I tend to do it sarcastically, welling myself up for entirely bogus reasons.
25. When Krissy became pregnant, and it was clear I was going to be a father, I briefly became obsessed with the subject of my own death -- not suicidal, mind you, just aware that I would one day die. I stopped worrying about pretty much exactly when Athena was born. I've since been told by other friends who became fathers that something similar happened to them as well.
For the record, all of these facts are still true (except number 23: I've officiated about 10 weddings now).
You're up: Look through the Weekend Assignments you've done over the last three years and pick the one you like best (or at least the one you did first) and post it again for everyone's enjoyment.
And, in all seriousness: Thanks for playing along for the last three years. It's been fun!

There is probably somene who has done them all. I wonder. Here is one simple one I like, though I am not sure I have a favorite.

What I like best about weekend assignments is knowing that a writer I admire is going to be reading my writing. Makes me proud. Thanks, John. -
Hi John :)
Great idea here, I had fun looking back at the past assignments I have done. Below is the link to my assignment, one note however, it is rated PG-13. :) Have a great week!
Always, Carly
