Play Ball, or, D'oh! + One Day Extension on Weekend Assignment

I am being suddenly reminded that today begin my daughters baseball practices, so the time I thought I'd be using writing up today's By The Way entries is instead going to be used watching my kid hit a small sphere with a cylindrical bit of metal. I'll be posting more, of course, when I get back, which should be early in the evening, including today's photo shoot.

One thing I did want to say, however, is that I want to give the Weekend Assignment another day, to get more suggestions in. This is not to say the batch of suggestions we've got isn't good enough -- actually, I know I'm going to pick some from there -- I just want to make sure everyone who wants to get in a suggestion has a chance. So if you've not participated in this week's Weekend Assignment, now's an excellent time to do it!

If you could explain how to film and post video in Very Simple terms, I'm 50/50 on starting that Battle of Mogadishu assignment like as soon as the power is back on at the Staples.

- Describe something you do every day that would get your head cut off in a soccer stadium if you tried it in Asia.

- Everybody drink Jaegermeister before you do the Week. Ass.

- The Iraq War needs financing. Pick one US state to sell to another country, and justify your decision.

- You meet your God. God gives you one wish. What do you wish for?

- Recast the movie "The Godfather," but do it with cartoon characters.

- Buy a bunch of GI Joe dolls and several dollhouses, and recreate the Battle Of Mogadishu (stripped NBA action figures can be used as the bad guys) for a Monday Photo Shoot.....or import a few Barbie dolls, and do a mini Melrose Place episode.

- Everyone kick in a $20, hen pick 3 celebrities that we think will perish in 2008. Whoever gets the most wins the kitty. John holds the cash.

- Kick some Philosophy... say, tell us if there is such a thing as a selfless act?

- Break up every band you like, then reassemble the band members into a supergroup that you wish existed. Name the band, too.

- In the same vein... build a Supergirl/guy... Britney's hair, J-Lo's ass, Aguilera's sex drive, etc...

- Make a new blog, and use it to start a very localized militia.

- Batman and Superman fight. Who wins?

- Due to a timely political contribution, you get to make one thing illegal/legal. What do you choose?

- Would you rather be able to kick ass on anyone world-wide, or be cool enough to talk your way out of any possible jam?

- Imagine you're a schoolteacher. Suddenly, gunfire erupts in the hall outside your classroom. Whattya do?

- You just won the lottery. You can relocate anywhere in the world. Where do we find you in a year?

- The USA, for whatever reason, needs a 51st state. Who do we annex?
