Making Your Dog Understand Quantum Physics

Did you know that in some universe, my dog is eating steak right now? And yours too. And if you don't have a dog, there's a universe in which you do, and in which that dog is eating steak. No, really. My pal Chad Orzel, who is a physicist, don't you know, explains it all in this conversation with his dog, who wants steak.

What? You don't like in a universe where you regularly converse with your dog about physics? What a sad universe in which you live!

My mother told me before I was married that one always wants to be the smarter being in one's house.

Gene Wolfe wrote a short story about a dog who kept bringing back things from other universes.  He kept going farther and farther to get them ...

And I know that dogs know all about this stuff.  My last dog was a Border Collie, you know, the breed that explains quantum mechanics to you.  And the one before that was a Gordon Setter.  He couldn't explain it, but he sure liked to use it a lot to go off and visit places where you couldn't find him.  He especially liked visiting the Faerie Universe on nights with a full moon.

Nice to hear others have discovered that universe - and a veyr happy yet belated birthday John.  Your mom sure is proud of you, how does that feel, great huh?  You're one of those sons who got it right according to her.  That's like gold.  You'll see.  CATHY

Somehow I always assumed that cats were more interested in physics than dogs are, what with the quantum uncertainty and all.  On the other hand, maybe that explains why Tuffy looks so worried all the time, especially when not eating steak.
