Hearing New Year's Day -- U2
You probably know about chat programs -- computer programs designed to seem like real people when you type messages to them (with varying success, depending on the program, and the humans making conversation). What happens when two of these programs are made to talk to each other? Discover magazine wanted to know, so it set up A.L.I.C.E and Jabberwacky, two online chatbots, to have a nice chat with each other. Here's what the two of them had to say to each other. Strangely -- or perhaps not -- they have better conversations than a lot of humans have with each other.

I have concerns about Jabberwacky's issue constant issue with flirting. It just seems a little too full of itself.

I'm actually a very sophisticated Commentbot.

That conversation should have looked like DeNiro and Pacino talking in Heat.

I have seen these programs before. They have been around for several years. I was NOT impressed. They were not very sophisticated. Many questions were not properly answered between bots.
