Hearing Baby We're Going Down -- Fall Out Boy
I was in the room while Athena was watching some terrible show on TV, and suggesting to her that there would come a day when she would feel vaguely embarrassed that she had wasted some portion of her young life with such tripe, when she asked me if there were any bad TV shows I loved when I was a kid. Were there ever! And thus, this week's Weekend Assignment:
Weekend Assignment #167: You watched some bad TV as a kid. Tell us your favorites. Now, this doesn't mean you realized at the time it was bad. Just now, in the fullness of time, you recognized that your viewing choices left something to be desired. For the purposes of this assignment, try to stick with shows that were aimed at kids, although if you can't think of any, prime time shows are okay as well.
Extra Credit: How much TV did you watch when you were a kid? A lot? A little?
Here's my guilty pleasure:

This was a weird little show, because it started out as a 15-minute segment on another show (Tarzan and the Super 7, or something like that), but then later became its own half-hour show. Jason was a sort of Han Solo lite fellow, who zipped around the universe fighting evil guys who tooled around a ship that look suspiciously like the place Star Command was housed (in fact, it was the same ship, just filmed on the other side, and that tells you how cheesy this series was). I think even at the time I realized it was sort of cheesy, but, you know, I was ten, I was a geek, and I loved science fiction, so I didn't care. Mmmm... Star Command. And look! Scotty was in the series, too! (not as Scotty, of course.)
The entire series is now out on DVD, but I haven't had the urge to buy it, because, well. I already know it wouldn't be the same. It's best just to let it remain cheesy yet fun in my dimming, geeky memory.
How much TV did I watch as a kid? As much as I could get away with. Ironically, I hardly watch any these days -- except for the TV programs Athena is watching. Hey, as bad as some of Athena's stuff may be, it's got to be better than American Idol.
You're up: wander through your TV memories of years past, find that cheesy terrible TV show you loved so well, write about it in your blog or journal, and then come back here to leave a link. Let's relive all that terrible TV together.
