This site is alternately fascinating and terrifying: A collection of crash test videos of late model cars from Consumer Reports. Just select the made and model of your late model car (1999 and since), and then watch as the National Institute for Highway Safety chucks it at a stationary barrier at 40 miles an hour. And then watch it in slow motion! This will do two things for you: One, it'll make you realize that a crash, even at "just" 40mph, will really screw you up; two, it'll make you want to get a Volvo for your next car.
