Hearing Mr. Brightside -- The Killers

Athena's making something deep, rich and chocolately here in Scalzi test kitchens, reminding us that last week's Weekend Assignment was tips for the kitchen. And what tips do we have on tap?
"Be open and create something."
"Run a sink full of hot, soapy water before cooking."
"Soak chicken in a brine before cooking."
"At no time should you EVER put one of them new fangled Easy Mac bowls in the microwave and cook it with no water in it."
A long and complex tip, involving bears, on how to cook with Mountain Dew is here.
"If you pack a lunch for work or school, and the lunch involves any type of reusable plastic packaging, do not leave the packaging in your lunchbox, dirty with bits of uneaten food, until the next lunch you pack."
"The Ziploc Bag Is Your Friend :)"
"Don't put the sausage on medium heat with just a little water, and then leave the room for 10 minutes."
There are even more tips left in the comment thread to the original assignment.
Thanks all for the kitchen tips. Even the ones that are oddly specific are going to be helpful, I think.

The collander had melted, and looked roughly like what fried dough looks like before you cook it. The kitchen reeked for a month.
The next time I saw the Colonel, I took 5 running steps at him and tried to kick his testicles... but he'd been married to me for a few years by then, and he anticipated/blocked my Finishing Move.
