Hearing Nothing at the moment

What am I doing in that picture above? Well, setting up this week's Weekend Assignment, that's what!
Weekend Assignment #171: Talk about the most unusual piece of technology or machinery that you've ever used. It could be some specialized machine or tech you use for work, or perhaps some off-brand curiosity you found at an electronics store, or even (if you're technologically inclined) something you've created yourself. The key is that it's got to be something that makes people go "Huh. That's weird."
Extra Credit: Mp3/music player or cell phone: Which would you give up first?
The piece of technology I'm using in that picture above is the "LongPen" -- it's a computerized system that allows authors to be in one place but to sign books in another. In this particular case, I'm in New York City, in a conference room in the Flatiron Building, while the books I'm signing are in Anaheim. On this end, I see an image of a book page on a computer screen, and I use a stylus to electronically draw my signature on the image of the page. Then, in Anaheim, a computerized arm with a pen attached to it reproduces my signature. And voila -- I've autographed a book from 3,000 miles away. I think that takes the prize as the most unusual piece of technology I've used.
As for MP3 player vs. Cell Phone? I'd ditch the cell phone first. Because everyone else has cell phones, and in a pinch I could use one of theirs. But no one has my selection of music on their MP3 player. Now, of course, as time goes on, this will be more of a false choice, because people already have cell phones that play music aside from ringtones. But for now, I'll keep my iPod.
You're up! Regale us with tales of unusual technology. Write it up on your blog or journal, and then come back here to leave a link. Let's see what weird science we've all played with.
