Hearing Shock the Monkey -- Peter Gabriel
Ready for some funky self-introspection? Then here is the week's Weekend Assignment:
Weekend Assignment #182: Compare yourself to the animal whose best-known traits are most like your own personality. Note this isn't "what animal would you like to be?" but is instead "what animal is most like you?" Also, don't be too worried if you identification is not totally biologically exact; listing your similarities based on the general cultural impression of the animal is fine, too. We're not doing science here, after all; we've doing end-of-the-week diversions.
Extra credit: Would you want to own the animal you identify with?
Here is my animal:
Yes, a monkey. Not necessarily a vervet monkey, as shown here. But more of the general, generic idea of a monkey. Why? Because like a monkey I am generally curious, occasionally mischievous and more than occasionally manic. If you get me angry I won't throw poo at you, but I may become aggravating enough that you decide to leave me alone. Also, I'm good with my hands, which is totally a primate thing.
Mind you, I would prefer to be a cat: I like the idea of being that generally unflappable and getting to sleep for hours on end while people feed you and adore you for no particularly good reason. But that's not really who I am. What I am is, well, monkeyesque. I live with this every day of my life, I do.
Would I want a monkey as a pet? Hell, no. Never have a pet that has opposable thumbs. That's just asking for trouble.
You're up: Search your soul, find the animal your soul most resembles, write about it in your blog or journal, and then come back here to leave a link. We'll have a whole menagerie here by Monday.
