Hearing I Want You to Want Me -- Letters to Cleo
Anyone who does a lot of reading know about "Mount TBR": That's the pile of books you have just waiting To Be Read -- the books you want to get to, but haven't yet. This brings us to this week's Weekend Assignment:
Weekend Assignment #184: What books do you want to read - but haven't yet? These could be new books, classic books you've just not gotten around to, books you've bought but haven't cracked the spines of, or a book you want to get but for some reason haven't. The salient characteristic is that you want to read it, but just haven't yet.
Extra credit: Do you usually prefer the book or the movie?
Because I do a lot of book interviews and features, I have a lot of books I have on my current "to read"list. Don't believe me? Here's a picture:

Two things to note: First, the picture cuts off the bottom four books in that stack, and second, I have two more stacks of books equally as tall. It's nice to be popular.
Most of the books I want to read to one degree or another -- some because the book look interesting, some because I know the author, and some because i just have that book-readin' itch -- but at this very second, the book I'm looking to read the most is the one at the very top: Empire of Ivory, by Naomi Novik. I know Naomi and she's a lovely person, but she's also a cracker-jack fantasy writer, and her books about an alternate history in which dragons exist in the Napoleonic Era (which this one is part of) are pretty darn cool. Also, Naomi has succeeded me as the Campbell Award winner for Best New Writer, so I feel I should represent for my fellow Campbellian, you know?
As for the extra credit: Generally I go for the book more than the movie, because generally I do a better job imagining the events in my head than the filmmakers do on the screen. This isn't always the case -- I prefer the movie version of The Lord of the Rings to the book version, for example -- but most of the time that's the way I lean.
You're up: Tell us what's in your To Be Read stack! Write it up in your blog or journal, and then come back here to leave a link. And happy reading -- both of these books, and of the links people are going to share.

Here's my list with a rueful note of apology, John, for what you may find included.
