Hearing Nothing at the moment

Bryan Patrick, Sacramento Bee / MCT
Yes, as a matter of fact, I've been following the events in California, because I have both family and friends in the San Diego area, and some of them have in fact been evacuated from their houses as the fires get uncomfortably close to their homes. Over half a million folks have been evacuated, according to some of the latest reports, but one (small) blessing so far is that despite the displacements there have been only two confirmed deaths so far, and even idiot looters don't seem to be particularly active at the moment.
If you are in an area where the fires are, I'm hoping that you're paying attention to your local officials and going when they tell you to move; no offense, but there's probably very little in your house that's worth burning to death over. Please be careful and be safe, all right?
Also, if you're in these areas -- and safe -- feel free to let us know what's going on from your point of view. You can drop your observations in the comment thread, or leave a link to your own journal entries.

But... but... According to CNN's Glenn Beck, those people whose houses are ablaze "hate" America, so it's okay, right?
Personally, if you ask me, I'd like to take a tack hammer and pound some of the coke dust out of Mr. Beck's head. He seems a little cloudier than normal.
Anyway, I almost went to grad-school at UCSD, and if I did, and I was out there now, I'd be all sorts of crazy freaking out. I just can't wrap my mind around the scope of it all. I mean, I've seen buildings on fire, but I honestly don't think I could handle a whole freakin' town on fire.
