Hearing Sleep Baby Jane -- Over the Rhine

Lucky For Really Unlucky Values of "Lucky"

Teenager in bus accident has a four-foot-long metal pole shoved through his forehead, into his brain and out the back of his head -- and experiences no ill effects. That is, of course, except for having a four-foot metal pole through his head. Which is not an experience I'd want to have, personally. Yes, I know. I'm not open to new experiences and all that. However, in this case, I can live with that.

Note: There's an x-ray picture at that link that shows you just where that pole was. It's not gory (it's an x-ray), but it's not actually pleasant, either. The article also shows a picture of the kid in question -- after he's all better. Dude's got some scars, man.

The scary thing for me is that he had to go three hours by ambulance to Bangalore with that thing in his head, to a second hospital, to get it taken out.

    Is his name Phineas Gage?

I bet the kid goes crazy later in life... and I say that with "well, he had a pipe smashed through his skull" factored into the "goes crazy" part. That was Gage's lot.

Now the kid's got a good excuse for the lousy grades on his report card.

"Son?  Care to explain these three D's?"
"Hello?  Pipe in the head!  You're lucky I even remember you're my father much less Algebra."
    "Fine.  Mow the lawn."
    "We have a lawn?"
