Not Just For Dogs Anymore

Picture from Hometown

This is the picture the Cat Nation would kill me for, if only they were sentient enough to realize what it is -- one of their number, drinking from the toilet bowl! Yes, Ghlaghghee is a toilet bowl water fiend, which is really inexplicable considering that we have more conventional water receptacles around for the cats. I've heard of cats being toilet-trained before, and Kodi, our dog, drinks from the water bowl as a matter of course. But as we all know that's a dog thing, so that's no big news. But this the first cat I've had that's of the opinion the toilet is a drinking station.

I do wonder if it's not an issue of imitation -- Ghlaghghee and Kodi are fast friends, and they play a lot together (which is mildly worrisome -- a hundred pound dog of a breed designed to hunt bears toying with a five pound ball of fluff -- but the two of them have a ball), so maybe somewhere along the way Ghlaghghee saw Kodi taking a pause that refreshes and followed suit. Good thing Kodi doesn't smoke.

Of course, maybe cats do this sort of thing more than I suspected. So, let's throw this out to the cat owners out there -- does your cat drink from the toilet (or would it, if you left the seat up)? Share your cat's quirks. Don't worry, we won't tell the cats we're talking about them.

Some friends of mine have put up signs in all their bathrooms, to remind guests to leave the toilet lid down. Otherwise their feline housemate is indeed prone to using them as a drinking station.

My cat used to drink out of the toilet all the time. But more often, she'd just peer in, as if she was making a wish or something.
