Between Two Worlds

Public Journal

Between to worlds he rambles.
A man who walks about the house
Never to be seen, but one knows where
he's been. We always wondered what he
had in store for us. What has come up
missing this time, or what has been
changed about. Constantly pondering
why he walks between two worlds.
We call him Chief, because we live
in the area of a Native American camp site.

Popcorn

Do I believe in ghost, I guess that is something you will have to discover for your self. I do write about ghost as you have read and will continue doing so as long as I have a story to tell.
It was late and I was getting a little hungry, a bowl of hot buttery popcorn sounded great, so I headed to the kitchen. The smell of the popcorn popping in the microwave was overwhelming. as I patiently waiting for that first mouth full of popcorn dripping with butter, I heard him. There was no one else with me,  I was alone. I am not afraid of Chief but he still catches me off guard when I hear him about. He is just one of those things that go bump in the night and startles the daylights out of ya. Then ya wonder why the heck am I so nervous. He travels about the house a lot and never stays put very long. I heard the cupboard door open and turned to see who was there. Then the door closed with a bang, causing me to nearly jump out of my skin. Then I heard footsteps, and the dog laid down in the hall way and just whimpered. The bowl on the table kind of moved as if someone had touched it. I asked Chief if he wanted some popcorn, but there was silence in the room. Being a polite host I put some in the bowl and left the room. The dogs whimpering grew louder as I heard footsteps in the kitchen. I fell asleep watching television that night. I the morning as I went into the kitchen I noticed that the popcorn I left in the bowl the night before was gone. I have been interesting with Chief in our house. I have done research and still fill that the only connection Chief has without house is that it was built on Native land.

The Message

This is what happened...I just finished the dishes for the night and was going to get on the computer, when I heard a noise in the back of the house. I went to look and to my surprise I knew Chief had been there. There were dirty dishes lying on the table where none had been a few minutes before. I started to cry out who put them there when I heard foot steps on the basement stairs. The boisterous soul who often joined us in spirit was in the house. I was puzzeled because I had never known him to use dishes before. What I saw next shocked me because he had left me a sign beyond the dishes that he was there. On the table beside the dishes lay a medicine wheel. He was telling me that life is a circle and the four directions stand for north, south, east and west. In the medicine wheel there is an X , Mother earth being down and Father Sky being above. I thought they represented only four directions but with up and down there are six directions. But the X in the center of the Wheel could also represent Chirst. If you know Greek X stands for the first letter in Christ. The wheel represents protection and helps us, and allows us to gthers surrounding energies into on focal point. It also represents communing with the Spirit, Self and Nature, Creation. The center of the circle is the touching of the Spirit, purity of heart, truth. It was like he was wanting me to conntect with the spirit world, this a safe and protected place of love, a centered and gounding place.

When I looked at the wheel again I saw the color red, for the direction South, fire and passion.

Yellow stood for East, air and flight. Blue stands for West, water and emotions. And last is Green, representing North, earth and wisdom. I researched the medicine wheel for it's meaning to see his message to me. What he was trying to tell me that as I grew in the Native Spirit I would change like the seasons, learning from others. To search out the Spirit, with a pure heart, seeking the truth. This is one of the many messages that Chief had for me.

Twilight Zone

Twilight Zone, nope but we could call it Chief's Zone. One night while I was watching television, actually a ghost story. I couldn't sleep but everyone eles was, had been for a few hours. Anyway I got thirsty and headed for the kitchen for a drink. When I heard his footsteps on the stairs leading to the basement. Thinking myself safe from harm, I retreived myself a Pepsi and headed back to the frontroom. But I felt cold as I entered the frontroom,a sign that Chief was about. I stopped and stood rooted in time waiting for something to happen. This is a very small house so when Chief's about you know it. I never feared Chief but I always got cold chills when he was about. I moved to the chair and tried to watch more of the television, I grabbed a blanket to ward off the chill I felt. That is when the ball in the cornor started rolling about, then started bouncing softly. The dog who was asleep in the bedroom came into the frontroom with a growl. Chief stopped bouncing the ball, and as quickly he left, I could hear his footsteps in the kitchen and down the stairs. Ted lay growling at the kitchen door as if protecting me from Chief.

Folded Laundry

I was setting on the couch reading the paper, the kids were in bed and Bobb at a fire call. I was thirsty so I headed for the Kitchen, as I turned the light on I heard footsteps behind me. I felt like screaming because it scared me. Teddy was in front of me, he turned with a low growl. I knew Chief was about. I got my drink and decided to check on the laundry. I was not quite dry so I turned it back on and went upstairs.

I went to sleep while watchng television, but a short time later I heard a noise. Shaking off sleep I listened for a few minutes, deciding it must be the dryer I tried to go back to sleep. Once again I was awoken by a sound, but that's odd it was dark in the house so I lite the oil lamp. That was it the lights went out and that is what woke me, it was a sound but the lack of it.

I decided to go to bed and blew out the oil lamp. I woke in the morning and headed to the basement to retrive the dry clothes, expecting them to be in the dryer. Instead they were on the washer and folded at that. I asumed I did it and didn't remember. But that wasn't the case. Was it Chief who folded the clothes. I guess I'll never know. But I beleive I have a Spirit with me paranormal, supernatural or what, it seems likely whoever it is, is making his presence known. He has lived with us a long time, he never communitcates. I do get these wierd feelings every now and then, but nothing bad ever happens.

Mumblings Going On

I don't really like going into the basement, but that is where the washer and dryer are at. One night I went down stairs to do some laundry, but the light was burned out. There was some light from the moon streaming through the window in the laundry room so I challenged myself to go and replace the light. I grabbed a new bulb and the laundry and headed downstairs. Just as I reached the bottom stair I heard footsteps. I froze on the last step, when I heard mumbling. I took a deep breath and turned to go back up stairs. But I couldn't move. Oh, come on you just imagining things, there is nothing down here. I quickly headed to the burned out light and quickly changed it. Put in the load of laundry and stumbled up the stairs. If there had been a door leading to the basement I would have locked it behind me.

Then I thought to myself and kind of chuckled, must have been Chief. Bet he got a good laught out of my being scared. But I still wonder why he choose this house. Why is he tied to this area. Maybe it not so much the house maybe the land.

Feeling Chillin'
Hearing Television

The Picture

One evening, I heard footsteps in the attic. They seemed to move from one side of the house to the other.  I was alone  so no one was up there to make the noises I was hearing. Was I was hearing the settling of the house  or was it something more mysterious. We have heard Chief about the house, was this him. He never appeared in human form but seemed to wonder around at night.

It's pretty scary up in the attic at night and a lot of spooky things happen, like feeling a presence when no one is there. Or hearing footsteps, turning and finding no one. Although his presence has touch us as we experience this phenomenon. His presence is known by the opening of doors and his moving objects about.

This night a commotion was heard in the attic, I was somewhat spooked. But in addition to the footsteps I heard voices. It sounded like they were moving things around in the attic. When I opened the door I heard a weird sound. There were a picture frames at the top of the stairs, the glass acted like a mirror, showing the space in the attic before it.  Something caught my eye, a reflection upon the glass. Something stood in the darkness above where I stood at the bottom of the stairs. It was a figure with long black hair, dress in buckskin as I watched it walked away at least I though I did. This was so intense I about freaked out.

In the light of day I returned to the attic and to my surprise there was the picture I had not seen in years. It was the back of a Native American dressed in buckskin, with long black hair and hands raised to the sky as in prayer.  This picture was tucked away in the back of the attic had Chief found it and placed it there for my viewing.

The Cigerate

I didn't really believe in ghost until Chief came to our house. But since he came strange things have happened. I was sitting in the living room watching television. I didn't actually view him but sort of knew he was there. Setting on the faded brown sofa, children asleep in their rooms, Bob at the fire station when he came to life again. I was setting in the dark with on the television to lighten the room, when a light came on. Now I tell you there was no light in that area of the room, nor a wall plug to add one. I listen quietly in the darkly carpeted and  and paneled room scared to death. I heard some shuffling and saw the light from a match. I could smell the sulfer and then tobacco burning, not from a cigarette but from a pipe. I could hear him puffing as he tried to get it lit. In breathless anticipation I waited and listened. I could hear him wheeze, the sound coming over near the light, yet I saw nothing. I glanced around the room in search of something visible, other than the life. I wondered as I sat, the air was saturated with the scent from his pipe, would anyone believe me if I told them about this. Then the light went out and foot steps were heard, he walked through the kitchen and down the stairs. I sat chilled, waited breathless till the footsteps faded.

Feeling Anxious

The Picture

Teddy J. was afraid of the basement, he was never really fond of it but if dogs are afraid he was.

Chief did strange things down there, you knew he was around because there were cold spots, mostly in the big room. You could feel the presence of Chief when you were down there. One night while in the basement doing laundry  I heard someone saying "no, no". It took me several minutes to get the nerve to move and I ran upstairs. I remember the dog laying at the top of the stairs growling and baring his teeth. I know that no one would believe my story if I told them, so I kept it to my self. I've heard Chief humming but never speaking. I guess that is what unnerved me. Just before going to bed I check on Teddy to see if he was coming. Just as I approached him his head shot up and he started growling again. The light was still on in the basement but as usual I saw nothing. I could feel a chill start to come over me. I stepped back into the kitchen. I was watching Teddy and it seemed like he was following something with his eyes. Then he took off, running to the bedroom, jumping on the bed. I stood for a few minutes before moving towards the bedroom. Did I dare wake my husband and tell him of the strange happening or keep my mouth shut. The next morning I went down stairs to finish laundry, feeling kind of stupid over last nights events. Chief had never cause such strange happenings before. When I entered the laundry room just off the steps I saw it. There  in the laundry room was a picture I had not seen in a while leaning against the wall. It was of a river running through a woods with a man standing in the middle of the water fishing. The picture bugged me for a while but as I stood looking at the picture I felt a cold chill or a breeze what ever you want to call it in the room. I had the feeling that someone was with me. I was speechless for a while then I spoke, speaking to Chief as if he was actually there. I heard crying, maybe he was thinking back to when this land was a Native American Camp Ground. I've had an interest in ghost since Chief arrived, read books about them. But I never had an experience with Chief like this.

Investigation of Chief

Chief likes to play tricks on me and one night I left the house, knowing well that all the light were turned off. About 9 p.m. I returned home to find the basements lights on. My husband always scolded me about leaving lights on, but I knew I didn't leave these lights on. There seemed to be no explanation for them being on, I was so frustrated. But other things began to happen that night I went to the sewing machine for my scissors and they were gone, so was my comb and my favorite ball cap. Later that night my husband went to the fridge for a glass of milk and there were the missing items. He accused me of putting them there. I knew that I didn't, but he wouldn't give up the idea. Then a little later he was looking for his gun cleaning kit, one that was kept locked in the gun cabinet and it was later found in the bed room on his side of the bed. I gave him a bad time about forgetting where he put things just as he had done me. Chief does nothing scary, just turns light on or off and he has even turned the TV off while we were watching it. Things still disappear and reappear in strange places. We don't talk of Chief to family and friends because they wouldn't appreciate him. But he has become apart of this family whether we want him or not.

Feeling Silly

Chief....Mischief

While setting in the dark watching television with the children we heard Chief. I had a vague feeling he was rambling about the house looking for mischief to get into. We heard him on the step near the back door. We have heard his foot steps but never a glimpse of him, I wonder why?
We have lived with Chief for several years now and really not afraid of him just wonder what he has in store for us when he is about the house. The plot of the movie was just getting interesting when we heard a crash in the kitchen. The three of us jumped and screamed at the same time. I went to look thinking the cat knocked something over and there she was, Jennifer staring at the refrigerator with her fir standing on end. A low growl coming from with in her. She didn't move for a few minutes. I was amazed to find the door was opened and the milk lying on the floor. This was just the start of the evenings events. I cleaned up the mess with some help from Jennifer and went back to my movie. Just as I passed the Northern pine that sits in the frontroom I glimpsed its movement. There was no breeze in the house that I could feel and the furnace was not on at the time. At first it made me uncomfortable because I figured it was Chief letting me know he was near. Then the candle on the coffee table went out. I knew Chief was at it again and we started laughing because Chief didn't seem to like candles, but he didn't seem to mind the oil lamps when they were lit. We never felt threatened by Chief but sometimes he could sent chills up my spine. It just seemed odd that my husband never heard Chief when he was about the house. We settled down once more to finish the movie when we heard footsteps in the attic, when I opened the door and lit the light they stopped. When I turned if off I heard them again. I heard more shuffling in the attic and I called up to Chief saying that's enough for tonight. He quieted down, we finished our movie and the house remained quiet the rest of the night.
