R11b Update: Screen Name Fix & More

Midnight EDT tonight (Wednesday, 5/16), the Journals team will be installing a patch that fixes the problem where people's names (usually first names) were showing up instead of their Screen Name when they left a comment or posted an entry. I'll tell you why it happened after the fix is installed.
We're listening to your feedback about the changes to the embedded Pictures albums, and we'll be working with the AOL Pictures and Woohoo teams to see how we can get captions for your photos to display, and also to get them to act more like a traditional, linear slideshow.
I will try to get some more detailed tutorials on the Pictures and Video stuff up tomorrow.

In the meantime, if you blog entries using your own webcams (like blogger John), leave a comment with a link, and tag it with Video Entry (or how about AOL Video Blogger -- no one else appears to be using that one), so we can see it.

Now I'm MORE mad about the picture change then I was yesterday!!!! If I go onto another's journal and they have picures.....My computer freezes!!!!! Thanks for screwing up the journals when they were just fine!!!!!!

Hi Joe - After absorbing the new changes and reading all the comments, I believe the pictures should have a regular (old style) photo page, i.e., click to see each picture, as the default. In this manner, old journal entries as well as style of entry would not be affected by the change. As new entries are made, the author can then opt for the newer, more stylish picture entry, if desired, and adjust his/her entry style.

I like the new style a lot and simply changing the default to the old (or like) style would solve a lot of problems. For those who have dial up, this is ideal because the picture loading speed on dial up is painfully long due to the default style.

I have a question about viewing the photos. I just added about 5 pictures and expected them to perform a slideshow as the others had. This time they are all in a horizontal line across the top of my entry and have caused the text to go the length of the photos. BUT I just got a comment (which isn't showing up when I look at my homepage) that says how cool the slide show is. I looked again and it is still showing up horizontally. Any thoughts?
