Hypocrites In the Church

"The effort to keep Terri Schiavo alive artificially became a religious crusade and Republicans in Washington responded to a core constituency, even though it meant abandoning traditional Republican philosophy." -  John Danforth

It is fair for him to try and persuade people to endorse his positions but it is wrong and demagogic to attempt to question the right of people of faith to participate in politics. That is certainly what Dowd, Krugman, and others want to accomplish, and although Danforth asserts that "I do not fault religious people for political action," the intention of his essay is to encourage the Republican party to reject the efforts of religious people to influence the party's agenda. Hating the "Religious Right"

kare11.com :: KARE 11 TV - Danforth angry over power conservative Christians wield

John Danforth, who is an ordained Episcopal priest, supports allowing scientific research on  embryonic human beings but was against Americans exercising their rights to petition the government on Terri schiavo's behalf:

"The effort to keep Terri Schiavo alive artificially became a religious crusade, and Republicans in Washington responded to a core constituency, even though it meant abandoning traditional Republican philosophy,"

According to Danforths faith, regardless of what comes out either side of his mouth, he supports abortion on demand (abortion at anytime for any reason). Being a Episcopal priest Danforth would also be a member of Clergy Leadership Institute for Reproductive Justice

The only thing I can find wrong with Danforth's views is that he doesn't practice what he preaches.

Former Missouri senator John Danforth says "I do not fault religious people for political action" out of one side of his mouth and then out of the other side of his mouth he writes in his book "There is a difference between being a Christian in politics and having a Christian agenda for politics."

One would think that John  Danforth would keep his own religion out of politics, if he has a problem accepting that a Christian has as much right to voice his/her opinion as he does.

I am an American I have no problem with anyone being in politics.....(That's the American way) I don't have a problem unless they try to suppress other people's views....... Then as an American I have a problem understanding why some people aren't willing to let every side be heard on the issues and then leave it to individual Americans to make up their own minds.

The Florida Catholic Conference | Statement of the Florida Bishops

I must agree, since  Bishop Robert N. Lynch Diocese of St. Petersburg  has his name on this.

...To uphold God’s intent for marriage in which sexual relations have their proper and exclusive place is not to offend the dignity of persons with same sex attraction.  Christians must give witness to the whole moral truth and proclaim as immoral all sexual activity outside of true marriage, as well as any unjust actions and hateful attitudes toward homosexual persons....

The biggest hypocrites are (so-called) Bishop Lynch and the priest that "married" Mike and Jodi.
