Election Day Advocacy
Jack Crawford of WBAOC has a recommendation for those who want their issues considered by voters in this year’s election, “Make yourself a sign and go to the polling place on Election Day and try to influence the election at that poll.”
Here are three potential signs he suggested:
- Bush and Bin Laden are both religious.
Religion is not the answer!
Six countries sponsor terrorism.
Wars should not be fought at home!
The pursuit of happiness is selfish.
Sacrifice is Un-American!
He suggests a third line could be added to advocate a specific course of action.
Several observations about such advocacy at the polls: (1) people expect such advocacy at the polls, (2) during low traffic periods advocates converse thus giving an opportunity to influence others actively involved in local politics, (3) local politicians frequently work these polling sites (see point 2 above), and (4) any local media at the polls would be interested in getting interesting, intelligent, and different quotes from a local resident with a big yellow sign advocating a relevant issue.
