Prayer or Action in the War against Terrorism?
In response to the anniversary of the Sept 11 Terrorist Attacks, President Bush declared three days of “Prayer and Remembrance”.
In response, Nicholas Provenzo precisely identified the error in President Bush’s proclamation regarding the anniversary.
- All the prayers in the world will not move one grain of sand one inch. Rather than call for prayer and remembrance, I would prefer the president to commemorate this anniversary September 11th with bombs and riflemen loosed upon the agents of evil that initiated their attack upon our soil and our people. It’s our nation’s enemies who seek Islamic heaven over the value of this life. Let us resolve to do our best to deliver them to it. [N. Provenzo, The War: A More Substantive Proclamation, Rule of Reason, 9/11/2004]
So our enemy is praying for our defeat five times a day, and President Bush’s breakthrough plan to victory in the War against Terrorism is three days of prayer. Meanwhile, in between praying for our defeat, the enemy is planning to attack us. This might sound like a radical idea but hear me out. Since we have known for decades who the state sponsors of terrorism are and where they are, Provenzo’s idea of attacking instead of praying is something the Bush Administration might want to look into.
Remember how long it took President Bush to get to the urgent business of invading Iraq?
