Bush Blazed New Policy Trail in Middle East
Middle East Studies scholar Daniel Pipes makes an important point about the distinction between President Bush and Senator Kerry in the context of US policy toward the Middle East.
Senator Kerry advocates a return to the old policies that had been in place for decades. These were the same failed policies that culminated in the Sept 11 attacks.
In contrast, Pipes credits Bush with four innovations: (1) War rather than law enforcement, (2) Democracy rather than stability, (3) Preemption rather than deterrence, and (4) Leadership rather than reaction in setting the goals for an Arab-Israeli settlement.
Pipes’ full op-ed available through the Philadelphia Enquirer is a must read for those concerned about this election’s impact on the War against Terrorism [HERE].
