Feeling Enlightened
Climbing Out of The Box Yet Again
Oh, my god! I am so excited. Before I go into the 'out of the box' thing, I want to say how happy I am to have more MOOD choices. When I clicked Mood a big, long, inventive list appeared including the word "Crappy". How cool is that? We can actually express that we are feeling Crappy. Woohoo. I can't wait to actually feel Crappy so I can use that option.
Go click it now! See all the good stuff. YIPPEE.......
I have to admit, since I've been back from my trip, I have been a big slug. I haven't wanted to do anything other than the absolute necessary stuff. I haven't wanted to see friends, talk on the phone, get out in the world. In fact, it's been so bad that I have literally stayed in my office for most of the daylight hours for the past month.
My office (or "MY BOX") is a source of comfort to me. It has my favorite things in it. My computer (which I use FAR too much), my TV which I listen to more than watch, Kasey's favorite bed so she's in here with me most of the time and my NAP COUCH. Ahh, I love that old couch. Nothing better than fluffing up a few pillows and taking a 4 hour snooze nearly every afternoon. It's no wonder I can't sleep at night, DAH!
Well, last night, as I was laying in bed processing the day, week and past month (until around 4:00 this morning), I realized what a crappy ( insert a giddy little laugh here) existence I have been living. I thought about how great I felt when I was in Italy and that it was partially due to the amount of walking I did everyday.
My sister and I figured out that we walked anywhere from 3 to 6 miles every single day and more on a few occasions. When I went to bed at night I had no trouble falling asleep because I was truly tired after being outside exploring all day.
Since I can't go back to Italy or Paris (or anywhere else for that matter) until after Cari's wedding, I've decided to start exploring my own community. How's that for a good idea? LOL
Today, I drove to Target which is about 3 miles from my house. I parked in a nice shady parking place, got out, locked the car and took off on foot to run my errands. YIKES............ yes, I said ON FOOT.
I walked to the bank which is a good 3/4 of a mile, then from there I walked to Starbucks for a sugar-free, fat free latte and then it was on to Staples for a new ink cartridge for my photo printer.
I will admit, it did feel good to go inside Staples because it is air conditioned and it was heating up outside. After I finished my business there, I walked back to Target. I would say it was a little over 2 mile walk total.
I had some things to pick up in Target, and again, I will admit I did think about getting in the car and driving to a parking space much closer to the front door but I talked myself into continuing my 'adventure'. I walked all the way in, got my stuff and walked all the way back. Phew!!!! That was great.
As I drove out of the parking lot and got onto the freeway to go to Costco, I congratulated myself on a job well done.
I met a lady looking for a government building a few blocks from the bank. I was able to tell her how to get there and encouraged her to walk rather than call a cab. I promised her she would NOT melt and that she would feel much better for taking the walk. I met a lady while waiting for a green light who is riding her bicycle (with a brand new basket attached to the front) to run errands like I was doing rather than driving. She said she figures she will save $50 a month or more on gasoline and feel better for riding the bike.
Next week, I'm going to drive to the mall (3 miles away) and take a bus to downtown. I haven't been on a bus since I was a kid (other than on my trip overseas). I'm going to get off around the court house and walk to the antique district and check out a few stores. I'm not inviting anyone to go with me because I like to walk fast and I don't want to stop and look at stuff for too long.
I'm excited about my little adventures and look forward to writing about more of them.
Anyone up to trying this? Might be fun to share stories about what we see and who we meet along the way. I didn't really save any money today because I paid $3.85 for a coffee at Starbucks but I feel so great physically and emotionally that I consider that the pay off for the day.
Hugs all around!
Kathy

Hi Kathy... I just wrote an entry yesterday morning about the problems I've had staying asleep during the night, and one of the solutions my doctor did mention was to walk/exercise for 30 minutes a day. I forgot to mention that in my entry... but you have reminded me. Your entry inspires me... I'm going to find ways to put walking back into my routine. I haven't checked the new mood choices yet because I had never used them, since they never had the ones I needed. So I"ll go check them out. Have a good day! bea
