Zimbabwe: 'Take Advantage of Gospel Divas Concert'

GOSPEL vocalists have been urged to take advantage of the annual Gospel Divas Concert, as a platform to spread positive attitudes and preach against HIV and Aids.

Barbara Chikosi of Red Rose Entertainment -- the promoters of the show -- said female gospel artistes should be exemplary and shun controversy.

"The Gospel Divas in Concert is not only a platform of worship, praise and entertainment but also a vehicle for female gospel artistes from different towns of the country to preach the gospel of positive living as well as portraying a good image of themselves and the church," she said.

Chikosi popularly known as Mai Red Rose said the show now in its third year running -- was aimed at promoting budding female gospel artistes who lacked exposure.

She said this year's event was held outside Harare to promote upcoming divas from small towns and expose them to a wider audience.

The two shows, slated for Gweru on July 14 and Mutare the following Saturday, pits together the crop of some of the country's established and upcoming female gospel artistes.

The ace in the pack is Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave who will be out in full force with her spiritual and uplifting songs such as Ndauya Ndega, Makomborero, Vanogona Baba and others.

Bethen Pasinawako whose hit song Ndinzverei has become a staple on many a radio DJ's play lists will be making her debut appearance at the concert.

The Bethany Sisters is expected to support her on stage, while Amai Patai is expected to deliver her best in her backyard.

Esther Mukazika, a former backing vocalist for songbird Ivy Kombo will be doing her thing just the way fan like it. Other artistes to perform include Donna Chibaya, Agartha Marudzwa and Hellen Chitewe.
