This morning i was thinking of this old Cabbage Patch doll that Jordan used to have when he was really little.
It was the cutest little thing--one of the bald ones with just a little sprig of blonde hair on top. Her name was Melissa Tabitha--it said so on her birth certificate.
Anyway, Jordan was 4 years old at the time and he loved Melissa Tabitha. He was a great little papa, too... taking such good care of her and everything. It was adorable.
Well eventually, Melissa Tabitha (MT) got passed down to the Princess and she played with her a lot, too. We ended up putting a lot of miles on this poor doll. One summer day the Princess and MT were playing in the sprinklers in the front yard and MT got completely drenched--inside and out. They were having lots of fun, but i needed to get to the grocery store so i told the Princess to leave MT on the front porch while we were gone so that she could dry out, which she did, and the rest of us went to the store.
Well, when we got back home we saw that something horrible had happened! Someone had come along while we were gone and separated MT's head from her body--and her body was gone!! All that remained on the porch was MT's head.... her little bald head with the little sprig of blonde hair on top.
Who would do such a thing? It was awful. Melissa Tabitha had been in our family for like, sooo long. It was very sad, even Jordan felt bad. And then i got an idea.
At the time i was driving this old Chrysler 5th Avenue. It was burgundy and it looked like hell, mostly cause i had gotten hit like, 3 times over the years and i had better things to do with the insurance money than get the damn car fixed, ok??
It had one of those dorky Chrysler hood emblems on it, and then it hit me--take Melissa Tabitha's head, and put it OVER the dorky Chrysler hood emblem! Perfect! So, that's what we did--we immortalized her. Melissa Tabitha became our new hood ornament.
Now picture a bunch of freaks driving by in an old bashed in 5th Avenue anyway. It was already a sight. And then add to that our little MT hood ornament.... with her little sprig of blonde hair blowing in the breeze as we drove--gawd. It was classic. People would be laughing their asses off as they passed us on the freeway. (Everyone used to pass us, see. The car ran like sheet mon) Anyway, they'd be laughing at MT.... and we would just wave. It was great.
Well, all good trends come to an end and that car finally got hit one time too many and i had to junk it. But we saved MT's head, of course. You know, in case we get another Chrysler! ((0.~))

While I am very sorry about the beheading of MT... and while I understand what this loss must have meant to your family... I nearly fell out my freakin' chair laughing! Classic! (oh, and *yes*... I'm still reading...) ;) Jenn
