On the Mark
Yep. That's what it looks like with the gilding done, and the sumi ink on it. Still not finished, but not bad so far. Definitely not my best calligraphy, but considering that the medium was permacol via a Sceptre brand paintbrush (#0 head, about the size of a Speedball C-5 nib), it came out okay. One thing I'll never be happy with is how my edges in gilding tend to get ragged. Either it's the use of the makeup brush to gently remove the scraps, or the X-acto blade to trim those ends off. I use transfer leaf because it's easier to work with - I usually don't have hours on end at a shot to get my work done.
I really enjoy using the combination of sumi and real gilding. There's something about the matte vs shiny that makes it worthwhile. Just a few more colors in there, then I finish with his portrait.....
*stretch* Bedtime. G'night!
