Jeter Got Raped

The AL MVP award was announced today and the winner was Justin Morneau. No, they is not a misprint. Morneau, not Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who I wholeheartedly believe deserved the honor. I am not taking away from the Twins first baseman. He had 130 RBI and batted .321 all while the Twins were making a run towards the AL Central title. He had a great year, no doubt.

Jeter, however, finished second in the AL in batting at .344. He won the Hank Aaron award for being the best hitter. He won a gold glove as the best fielding shortstop. So, best hitter, best fielder at his position, leadership like no one else in the league.. yet he finished second? He was third in the AL in hits, second in runs, fourth in on-base percentage. He was the catalyst for a team that was injury prone and outside Mo and Wang, had some pretty bad pitching.

I would pass up the MVP for one shot at the title with Biel.

Chris will argue that he stole the Gold Glove (he did over an IM convo) and that's fine. I don't necessarily disagree with that. But the MVP belonged to him more than Morneau. He was more important to his team than Morneau. I'm not even saying this as a Yankees fan, I'm saying this as a baseball fan. You can all let the Yankee hate flow out all you want on these comments, but this award is garbage and Jeter got it worse than Halle Barry in Monster. Someone actually voted him sixth!?! Blasphemy! At least he can go home and tap Jessica Biel.

Are the people that do the voting former (Baseball Players)?  If they are they6 surely don't know much about Baseball.  Did any of them ever won anything?  I have a 12 year old grandchild that says that the voter who voted Jeter 6th place is a very stupid voter and that he doesn't know baseball.  He probably borrowed his brain from some stupid person.  As for me the voter who voted Jeter in 6th place should be banned not only from voting but from baseball and Pete Rose deserves to be in baseball more than the idiot who voted Jeter in 6th place.  I think he should start learning baseball in High School Baseball or maybe even in College which I doubt would be allowed to vote there or even show his face in College Baseball.  At least we can all say that he really showed how stupid he is.

    jthiba2105,

That award is given to the best OVERALL hitter.. not the one with the most HRs and RBI. Jeter was well deserving of that award. And I never said Morneau wasn't worthy of the award. He had a great season, but he wasn't even the MVP of his own team.

Can everyone please stop kissing Jeters ass for once? While I agree he is a great all around player and the leader of the yankees, The award was given to a deserving player. And Jeter sure recieved a gift when he recieved the hank arron award !!! Geez... thats a joke. If you know what that award stands for.. you know that Ortiz should have recieved that one all the way !!

Morneau is a very good player, and had a great year.  But there is no doubt that Jeter should have won. He batted over 390 in his 4th at bats. he almost won the batting title.  This is a guy who can hit a homer and then in his next at bat sacrifice bunt.  He does more intangibles then any player in the game. He is in on everything. Watching him cover bases when another fielder is out of position is text book, but something most fielders don't do consistantly, as Jeter does. Playing first base doesn't compare to shortstop no matter how good a first baseman one may be. It seems as if jealousy of the Yankees played a part in the vote.  How could a writervote Jeter sixth, that is unfathomable, and that writer should be banned.
