Hearing Aqualung
I've Caught Baseball Fever
As everyone knows, yesterday was Opening Day for MLB and more importantly my Yankees. The NCAA title game was on and for the first time in recent memory, I could care less about that. I had my eyes glued to the spanking the Yankees gave the A's, who many picked to be in the World Series. That got me thinking about my award winners for the 2006 season:
AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez. How can I go against the best player in baseball? He plays D, steals bases scores runs, homers, drives in 100. He started off the season with a homer and 5 RBI. The man is a beast
NL MVP: Albert Pujols. Again, same reasons as ARod, except Pujols doesn't play D. He is in his mid-20's. He might be the best hitter of my generation by the time it is all said and done.
Make all the jokes you want about his relationship with Jeter, but the man makes $25 mil a year and has a hot wife. His life is as good as it gets.
AL Cy Young: Johan Santana. Halladay might come close, the Unit too, but no one can touch Johan. He is a monster. Strikes people out at an alarming rate. If the Twins could put an offense around him, he could win 25 easily.
NL Cy Young: Mark Mulder. He is a forgotten man on a staff with 2006 winner Chris Carpenter. All Muder does is win. He has averaged 18 wins a year in his career and took 2nd in the 2001 Cy Young voting behind Roger Clemens. Carpenter had never won more than 15 games prior to last season. It's like he was juicing and with the added pressure to perform, Mulder will shine over him.
First Manager to Get the Boot: Frank Robinson. He probably doesn't deserve it since the Nationals play in such a tough division, but with Soriano crying and Jim Bowden(the league's worst GM) at the helm, it seems as if Frank is destined for the dumpster.
First Player to Get Divorced, Then Re-Married, Then Divorced: Kris Benson. Speaking of dumpsters.... Anna Benson decided she doesn't want a divorce now. This train wreck of a marriage is just getting started, and God I hope it turns to a reality show.
Related: The Brothers Mottram went to Camden on Opening Day to see the O's. It sounds like my kind of game to attend. Cigs and booze people, cigs and booze.

He is hands down the best player in baseball... although your light-in-the-loafers home boy A-Rod is a close second.
