Smooth Move Ricky Manning

Chicago hasn't really made waves in the free-agent market this NFL offseason. They had a solid signing in Brian Griese and appeared to have another solid signing in nickel back Ricky Manning. Looks can be deceiving.

The former Panthers corner was arrested on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon. That isn't really the way you want to start over with a new team. Manning was arrested early Sunday after he and some buddies decided to beat the hell out of someone outside a Denny's. First of all, what is a guy making $4 mil a year doing eating at Denny's? Was IHOP packed? How about getting your personal chef to cook something up? Na, instead this mental midget goes and allegedly jumps someone and gets slapped with the deadly weapon charge because he was aided and great bodily force was used. Hmm ... great bodily force? When five people jump you, is there any other force used? Were they bitch slapping him? No, so of course it's great force. If I was the Bears, I would see if I could void that contract. Smooth move Ricky Manning. Real smooth.

why in the hell is anyone talking about Achie F'ing Manning in a Ricky Manning article? Newsflash: Ricky=black man, Archie = white hillbilly father of Peyton and Eli. Completely unrelated to one another. Ricky is a complete moron for putting a $21 MIL payday at risk doing this crap, that's for sure.

This is to the comment from monponsant re: Archie must be proud.

I know you're just being facetious (AT LEAST I HOPE YOU WERE), but don't mess with my main man Archie. I grew up in Miss'ssippi, idolizing Archie as he led the Ole Miss Rebels to stunning upsets each season. Unfortunately, the team coulld never seem to muster the same fire in the belly when playing the likes of Southern Miss. or the Houston Cougars. They'd beat 'Bama or LSU, but lose to the also-rans.

Best memory: The first game I saw live was in 1970, or maybe it was '71, when the Rebs played the undefeated, ranked-3rd-in-the-nation Tennessee Vols in Jackson's Memorial Stadium. Tennessee was a heavy favorite, with a killer defense, anchored by a badass named Steve Kiner, and another guy who could play a little -- Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds. If I'm not mistaken, Bobby Majors, kin of Johnny and Lee Majors, was their free safety, also a punt-returner par excellence.

Kiner ran his mouth all week long about how they were gonna make Archie cry, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. FINAL SCORE?

    OLE MISS 38

Sign seen hanging high in the upper reaches of the stadium after the game had ended, and most fans had cleared out:

NO FRUIT SUCKS LIKE A BIG ORANGE.

    None indeed, my friend.
