HIGH NOTES: November Headlines

Listening to Clips from the Score to "Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire"

As promised, "High Notes" is featuring some movie score news tidbits this month, and I think you'll agree that it's a good month for it.

The biggest news by far is "King Kong."  Last month, director Peter Jackson decided to replace Howard Shore, his composer of choice from "Lord of the Rings," with James Newton Howard.  Jackson claims he and Shore had creative differences in regards to the score.  They decided it best to make an amicable split and let another composer score the film.  Howard won't have much time to produce a score, though.  "King Kong" reaches theaters December 14th. (Source: SoundtrackNet)

Speaking of Jackson and Shore, here's a treat for even the tepid movie score fans (one alluded to in my November preview).  Reprise/WMG Soundtracks plans to release a four disc set of music from "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring."  You'll get more than 180 minutes worth of music from the first film in the fantasy trilogy.  The fourth disc will give Ring fans a DVD with new artwork and liner notes among other goodies.  The official release date was originally November 22nd, but Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble both list its release date as December 13th, the day before "King Kong" arrives in theaters.  (Source: SoundtrackNet)

The latest Harry Potter film features a new composer to the series.  Patrick Doyle, whose credits include "Henry V" and the forthcoming film adaptation of Eragon, appears poised for some major exposure with this score.  The clips I've heard on the official soundtrack website sound very good. I just wish they offered more than two clips of the score.  The site actually includes five clips, but the other three clips are rock 'n roll tracks.  Those rock 'n roll songs offer a sign that Harry Potter is growing up.  I think that justifies their place on this CD.

The CD arrives in stores tomorrow (November 15), but if you're too impatient to wait even that long, then you can already download all the tracks from iTunes.

In putting together this "High Notes Headlines," I've decided there's not enough to do this every week. There appears enough news to warrant it once a month, so you can expect another entry like this later in December.

Hi Bill and Sheri.. thanks for the infor on my journal.. I've been following both Joe and Johns journal for news and know of that particular "fix".. it does interfer with other things so i "undid" it..
I now have 2 addy's one at aolUK which works on your alerts
    http://journals.aol.co.uk/deslily/HereThereEverywhere2/
and one at blogspot.. I am duplicating them so you need only go to the aol one which works on alerts..  so for now that's whats going on with me.  I have alot going on to keep me upset so i'm trying very hard to make a final decision on the journal.. i don't have many readers anyway so it makes little difference to anyone but me.. i'd like to keep those that come to my old journal though.. nice people and i in turn enjoy their journals.

Just an old lady wondering if i should go back to disappearing...  that's depression talking.. sorry.
you two just keep going.. i'll always read if nothing else.. have to find out that the dang cats name will be and his first "thoughts" lol.. I hope Sheri is doing well with her "fast writing project" too..
Not all "youngens" are so bad.. youre ok! lol

Gads Bill.. lol.. i heard aol UK had no ads and checked it out.. it doesn't! And it's exactly like the journal we already have (minus the ad).. it also keeps all the same alerts since it is aol also.. sooooooo i'm thinking hard.. wondering if i work hard there if they will turn around and banner that one too..sigh.  I am trying hard to make myself "make a decision" over the weekend.. blogspot.. aol UK or stay..  like i said earlier, I know they won't give bank of america their money back and anyone who thinks they might are just kidding theirself..  but i'm sitting on this "tack" just to hear if there is anything at all they will do...  I see a few things they could do.. the "hide" button which i mentioned.. they could allow aol members to keep the "old version" of the journal instead of upgrading.  This would mean we'd miss out on any "improvements" but then some of us are willing to give up that pleasure to keep things the way they are... so i see that they do have some choices they could make to keep those journalers happy if they want to.  Gads, I've seen where some are trying to get a "class action suit" against aol over this!    But aol's "out' so far for all of this is.. if you don't like it leave, no one is making you stay.. that to me is poor business down the line.

If either of you should relocate your blogs, do please let me know (and this holds for any other readers of this blog out there).  I'm sorry to say that I already know of at least one lady on my list of favorite blogs who is pursuing that route.

One of the things I've enjoyed about the AOL blogs is the community aspect.  I'm sorry to say that AOL's latest move has likely damaged that for some time to come.  The AOL bloggers do deserve something.  Even I can't fathom that essentially nothing differs between the AOL and AIM blogs.  The people paying for this do deserve something more for their money.

I understand your hesitation, Bill. I too am torn because I am an AIM journaler, so I have no vested interest in the protest. I can see the reasoning, as deslily has so eloquently pointed out, behind the protests, and in their position, I believe I would easily follow suit if I had an AOL journal and had been promised the things that were promised. I will post my own thoughts at The Other Invisible later today concerning this mess. I have a couple of alternative options for moving, but I really don't want to start over again.

I will continue to read your journal, no matter where we all end up because I enjoy your thoughts so much. Perhaps, if we duck long enough, this storm will pass and we can all get back to what we're supposed to be doing here--entertaining ourselves and the masses.

i can understand completely why AIM users wouldn't protest the recent actions of aol towards their members.. i will continue to read your journal.. for the simple reason that i like it.. you are interesting! lol
I don't know what i will do yet.. i did start a new journal in blogging.com (and have to say it has more to offer then the aol journal!.. so much so i haven't figured it out yet lol)  Anyway, I don't want to make a final decision while i feel so emotional about it..
I can't tell you how i hate ads.. most especially animated ones!  they constantly distract me from whatever i am doing.  I have web space at yahoo geocities and at least there you can "hide" the ads once the page is loaded.. i'm hoping aol will consider that also.. i know they have the technology to do it.. after all we can hide and unhide comments in the journal.. just one more button to add lol..

i hope your packing is going well!!...
