Feeling Hopeful
Folks who matter in this life
are those who bear their loss,
who hold true to their virtues
and never count the cost.
Please, Lord, just inspire me
to help others bear their load
and triumph over hardship
as they travel on this road.
Don't let me be a pessimist
who always wears a frown.
I'd rather be forgotten here
than to bring another down.
I don't want to be a person
who cannot enjoy sunshine
for remembering the rain,
who can't celebrate their health
for remembering the pain.
I don't want to be remembered
as a prophetess of doom,
whose thoughts are focused
fully on dying and the gloom.
I'd rather leave a legacy of hope
when they lay me in that tomb.
