Am I grown up?

OK, so... day after Halloween and I hit the candy section in Walmart.  50% off! Woo-who!  I get chocolate for the guys at work (I'm cursed, I can't eat chocolate - long story.), Smarties and get this - RAISINS!!

Does this mean I'm officially an old fart?!?!

Pencil Dilemma

OK - I understand the novelty of this pencil; State of Georgia - I get it... but I'm curious.  How does one use the eraser?  :-)

Advice from the Invisible

Future advice for all you guys out there -

Don't ever email an invisible woman and tell her that you used to have a crush on her  - and then not write back!!

"Bad form, ol' man, bad form..."

Not to mention, it could possibly drive her nuts!  "N-U-T-Z!"

Game Day Heals

For my two faithful readers - I'm feeling much better now.  It's amazing how getting together with old friends to play card games can heal the funkiness of single life.  I seem to find my spirit, strength... some may call it my backbone... when I'm around my theatre friends.  I got home and emailed the old college friend to see why he hasn't written back - what's he gonna do? Not write?! I don't think I'm gonna find him sitting on my car in the campus parking lot one day after work ready to fuss me out because I jumped his case for not writing.  Ha! (no, I didn't let him have it - I was polite about it... in a sassy way.)  <tee-hee>  Here's to sassiness! :-)

Finding old friends

In the past week I've met up with two old friends.  One was from High School and the other from my College years.  One came looking for forgiveness, the other I sought out.

Don emailed Jess a week or so ago looking to make a new connection with an old friend from his past.  He came seeking forgiveness along the way.  He got it, of course.  I don't know all of the story behind the event which brought on such malcontent, but it is in the past and now forgiven.  I can understand why Don wanted to straighten out things because I have people and situations in my past that I wish I could go back and seek the same as Don has done.  I know that this isn't possible for me - let's just say that's a dog best left lying.  Anyway...  Don and his sweet wife will be staying in contact with his newly found old friends.  It will be a long distance friendship (they live on the West Coast), but a friendship none the less. Check out his blog.

The friend from my college years is turning into another story.  I sought him out because I was scanning pictures of him.  Yes, I'm still working on the DT archive - Check it out, if you like.  So, I literally hunted him down.  I switched into computer investigator mode and tracked his ass across the internet.  I took a stab in the dark at his email address and threw a message in a bottle out into the cyber sea.  I was happy to find out that my gum shoeing turned out right - it was him, for he answered back.  He remembered me -I was flattered. I asked him for an update on his life since I hadn't talked to him in fifteen years.  He's an actor in the DC area in his free time and working for the government during the day. He did pound his chest a bit bragging on himself, but what actor doesn't do that. ;) Here's a review of one of his past shows. He asked for an update on my life in return and I was happy to oblige.  I wrote him back... updating him.  I didn't talk about the invisible factor in my life - I thought that was best left alone for now.  Apparently it came through some how... for I haven't heard from him since.

Yes, I hear you Jess - "He's a busy guy!"  I realize this... and I try my best to keep this in mind along with other things.  I just get so excited when I connect with an old friend, especially my old theatre friends.  I feel as if they understand me more than anyone else in my past.  (You learn so much about a person when you do a show with them.)  Some days I wish I wasn't such a soft hearted person, but then I realize if I wasn't, well, I just wouldn't be me. <sigh>

So, here I am... happy about connecting with an old High School friend... and disappointed about finding someone else.  Not to mention I burnt the cookies I was going to take to game day today!!!!  (game day - a few friends from my theatre past get together and play board games)  Hopefully being with them for a few hours will lift my spirits.

Unusual History Lesson

Yes, I confess -  I'm a woman in love with my TiVo. :)  Last week I caught a glimpse of a show on the History Channel and decided to record it later that night when it ran a second time. The show was Rumrunners, Moonshiners and Bootleggers.  I guess it peaked an interest because of my Southern history.  My family tree reaches back into the north Georgia mountains and there easily could have been moonshiners somewhere hanging in that tree. (yeah, more that easily)

I finally had a chance to watch the show tonight.  Wow! There has been a long history in this country surrounding legal and illegal liquor.  I learned so many things... like where the term bootleggers came from.  Back during the Revolutionary War time, men would smuggle liquor in bottles they hid in their high boots - get it?  The show covers this bottled history from the George Washington era to the mob wars to modern day back woods brewing.

The historical fact that hit my giggle button was about the moonshine haulers.  These haulers learned how to out run the law in the 1940's by souping up their cars.  As time went by, NASCAR was born and many of the racers were - you've guessed it - moonshine haulers!  I laughed so hard I was crying.  I've never understood the fascination behind driving in a circle really fast, but to connect it to white lightin' - it's now as clear as... well... do I have to say it? ;)

I enjoyed this history lesson... and the funniest thing about it... I don't indulge in such spirits. (honest!)

Spoonerism for the Day

Yes, spooning hit me today... and I have to share, of course.

I was talking about a hard drive for a computer I was dealing with this afternoon at work... and I meant to say "twenty gigs."  Instead it came out...  "twiggy."

There was much confusion after that... not to mention the strange laughter. Mostly me laughing at myself... no one else got it, for some odd reason.  :)
