Feeling Happy
Hearing Ladysmith Black Mambazo, of course
These are wonderful times for Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Earlier this year, our CD "Wenyukela-Raise Your Spirit Higher" won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music CD. Yesterday, we learned that we have been nominated for a 2006 Grammy Award for our most recent CD, "No Boundaries," under the category of Best Contemporary World Music. The 2006 Grammy winners will be announced on February 8th. This is our tenth Grammy nomination. We have won the award twice. The first time we won was in 1987, in the category Best Traditional Folk CD for "Shaka Zulu."
If this weren't enough, we are very excited about our newest CD, "Long Walk To Freedom," which will be released January 24, 2006. "Long Walk To Freedom" is a collection of many of our favorite, and most requested, songs re-recorded this summer in Boone, North Carolina, with several very special friends joining us on some of the songs.
There's more information, about this new CD, on the website so take a look. www.Mambazo.com
Right now we're back home, in South Africa, getting ready for the Christmas holiday. Soon after, we'll go back to rehearsing for our upcoming tour. We will be in the United States for two and a half months, then home for two weeks, and then we will travel to the United Kingdom for another five weeks of touring.
Our manager tells us there is very good "buzz" for the new CD. People are excited to learn that we have recorded songs with people like Melissa Etheridge, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal, Hugh Masakela, and several other amazing artists. We are being told to get lots of rest because when we go out on the next concert tour we will be doing a lot of television and radio shows to sing our songs and answer questions. It all sounds very exciting.
