Birthdays
Wow. Where does the time go? It just dawned on me that March is kitty birthday month. Scrapper is now 14, Squeeky and Callie 13 and Fluffy 1. I don't know Kitty's birthday or actual age but she's 15-16. Blackie's birthday is October and he'll be 6 which is hard to imagine.
Scrapper is doing GREAT! He's back to his old playful self, nice shiny coat and gaining weight. He still hates getting his medication but at least he's fairly easy to pill.
Fluffy is as ornary as ever and goofy as ever. LOL I managed to get her back claws cut the other day and am in the process of TRYING to do the front. She's decided that the wooden door frames between the kitchen and hallway are her personal scratching posts. Everytime I catch her I try to divert her to the scatching board but without much success. She also tends to put her claws out and grab onto my shirt when ever she's picked up so I am full of scratches. That's the main reason I try to keep them trimmed.
The other night I was trying to brush out some mats and she got mad and bit me. Brat. I'm going to have to get the razor out and do some trimming. I've found that the mustache trimmer on a men's electric razor works well for that. It's very gentle and doesn't just shear the hair like clippers do. It also won't cut her which is important. Of course she doesn't like it but she doesn't like being brushed either.

Well first off.. Belated Birthday greetings for all.
So good to hear that Scrapper is doing so well. That is great news.
Please give my cuz, Fluffy a birthday kiss from Lucy, who will be one year old in a few days:)
Abd Blackie will have to wait for his greeting:)

Hello to anybody reading this. This is Laurentha signed on from my AIM name and I'm afraid that this will most likely be the end of the journal. A few weeks ago when sending mail AOL scrambled my passwords even though I'm on the bulk mail list. The customer non-service people in India refuse to reset my account because of one piece of information I have been unable to provide. Well, actually I have provided it but for some strange reason it doesn't match their records. The security question I set up is gone from the records so it's useless. I'm sure Laurentha will be deleted from AOL when they don't get payment next month.
I have very bad news to share with you all. Scrapper went to the Bridge this past Tuesday (May 23rd). When I gave him his medication Fri evening his breathing was labored and somewhat noisy. The noise stopped so I didn't take him the the ER. I did take him to my regular vet on Sat. His breathing was still rapid but his heart rate was also. A chest xray revealed his heart was enlarged (a common side effect of hyperthyroidism) but there was no fluid. She put him on Enacard (an ACE inhibitor) and advised me to keep him quiet and warned that cats with these problems often just drop dead. Unfortunately the medication takes time work and it just didn't work fast enough. At approximately 9:30 am CT he apparently had a heart attack and died. We buried him in the back yard next to his sister, Holly, who died unexpectedly 3 years ago.
