Well, it looks like I will finally be getting the kick in the pants that I need to move on to something like facebook or myspace.  Fuck.  Here is the email that I just got that I'm sure you all did too.  Where are you all going to go?  Let me know.......I'll probably follow you.  I like the path of least resistance.  Let me just say that I am glad that I have met you all.  Thanks for reading my blog.  Thanks for being my entertainment in hotel rooms as I write postcards to you.  Thanks for the advice.  Thanks for being my online friends.

All the best!

Today was a wonderful day.  I got a book from the library and Jenny and I went to Golden Gate park to lay in the sun, listen to some bands play music, and do some reading.  Well, there was some wine there too.

The books title is Growing up Gay.  The Sorrows and Joys of Gay and Lesbian Adolescence.  The cover of the two boys walking through town holding hands behind their backs is nice.  It is more of a pictorial of two lives over the span of a couple years.  It left me with a warm fuzzy.  It was a quick, easy read.  Brilliant for an afternoon....

In an effort to curtail my drinking I have been reading again........ This book is very polarizing.  You will either hate it or love it.  I loved it.  I like to hear an explanation for some of the inconsistencies that occur when reading the bible.....

Here is a bit of advice:  Do not read this book if you do not want to have your foundations shaken.  It might just turn what you know and believe on its head.

Here is some of what it said about it on Wikipedia:

The Jesus Mysteries: Was the "Original Jesus" a Pagan God? is a 1999 book by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy that claims to reconstruct the true origins of Christianity. It relies heavily on the Gnostic gospels found at Nag Hammadi. Prior to publishing Jesus Mysteries, Freke and Gandy had collaborated in writing books on mysticism and paganism.

The cover of The Jesus Mysteries features a gem of Dionysus/Orpheus.
The cover of The Jesus Mysteries features a gem of Dionysus/Orpheus.

The authors suggest that a number of pagan mystery religions, such as those of Osiris, Dionysus, Attis, and Mithras, were all manifestations of a single cult of a dying and rising "godman" myth, whom they call Osiris-Dionysus. The authors propose that Jesus did not really exist, but was instead a syncretic re-interpretation of the fundamental pagan "godman" by the Gnostics, who were the original sect of Christianity. Orthodox Christianity, according to them, was not the predecessor to Gnosticism, as almost all scholars believe, but a later outgrowth that rewrote history in order to make literal Christianity appear to predate the Gnostics. They describe their theory as the "Jesus Mysteries thesis."

The book, originally published in the UK, apparently sold quite well in the UK and US[citation needed]. Its sequel, Jesus and the Lost Goddess, has been included by Dan Brown in a list of books relating to The Da Vinci Code.

I get a random call the other day from Cheryl.  She had very exciting news.  She has finished writing her dissertation!!!  It has taken her a couple of years and she has been through unimaginable hell all along the way, but she did it.

She is finishing up the introduction.  She will defend this fall. Then Cheryl will have her Ph.D. in English.

I'm telling you that I know her now.  One day you will all know her for her literary works, poetry, etc.  She is amazing.  Once she is published you will understand.

I am so excited for her.  I am so fucking proud to still be able to call her friend.

I heard this song while I was out this weekend.  It's catchy.  I happen to like Jennifer anyway.....  What do ya think?

I love going out.  I don't do it too often because I am broke.  My favorite thing about going out is hearing new music.  Lately I have felt out of touch with that........

And of course, my all time favorite is Mariah.  Saving the best for last.......

Yesterday I found out at the last minute that I was going to Beijing.  Again.  I rushed to the airport.  I rushed through security.  I rushed to the gate after I leisurely looked at the duty free cigarettes.  I rushed to my seat to begin my safety checks and that's when I discovered that I had forgotten my passport!

I was pulled from the flight.  I think that I may be in a lot of trouble.

So, I tell the crewdesk that I will stay and work if they want to give me another trip.  They sent me to Raleigh for the weekend.  Last night I went out to Legends nightclub.  You will never believe this, but I ran into two friends that I have not seen in 5 or 6 years that I used to know when I lived in Kentucky!!!

Isn't this world a small place?

I am a little bummed that I fucked up again, but what can I do about it now?  I apologized to my supervisor.  I tried to tell her that I love this job and I hope that I haven't given the impression that I don't take my responsibility seriously.  I think she got it.

Oh well.  Time will tell.  The layoffs are getting closer and closer.  Keep your fingers crossed.

In this clip you can see the ball in play.  The American goalee rejects the attempt at a point by Italy.  Men's Water Polo was fun to watch.  I can't say that I've ever watched the sport before I attended this event in Beijing.

Check out the olympic mascots dancing to Cotton Eyed Joe.  Who picked that song anyway?

Here are a couple of books that you should read when you have an opportunity.  Both are hilarious for different reasons.  Need something that will make you smile?  How about something that will make you laugh out loud?  Yeah, I was in need of some funny material after the goings-on of late.

These two delivered.

First up is David Sedaris' new book When You are Engulfed in Flames.  It was an easy read.  I like that anymore.  I don't want a freak'n 900 page tale full of twists and mystery.  I want it easy, like me.

Next up is Chelsea Handler's book, My Horizontal Life - A collection of one night stands.  I think the title says it all.  This book recounts some of the best and more embarrasing moments in Chelsea's romp with ding dongs.  You won't even believe what kind of situations in which she finds herself.  Hilarious!!!

PS.  Chelsea has another book about her alcoholism!!  That is next on my list!!  HA HA HA!!

Oh yeah.  I have been so preoccupied with getting fucked up lately that I haven't even taken a moment to tell you that I got to go to the Olympics in Beijing!!  For fuck's sake!!

I WENT TO THE OLYMPICS!!!!!!

I freak'n love this god-foresaken, thankless job of mine!!!

We bought tickets from scalpers standing outside the main gate.  We got to go to the Men's Water Polo event.  We were lucky enough to see the US beat Italy.  Amazing.  Without words.

These are the girls that I was hanging out with in Beijing.  From L to R:  Maria, Mary, Amy, and Deanna.  Those are what olympic tickets look like folks.  Pretty cool, eh?  I still can't believe that we got to see it.

I got the call early that morning.  They were desperate to fill a position on a 747 bound for Beijing.  I had less than an hour to get ready and get to the plane.  I hit the ground running.  I was tying my tie while driving down the interstate for the parking garage!!  I was so excited that I was going!!  What a fucking fluke!!  Windfall!!

I am going to put the other pictures in an album up top so that you can click on them and enlarge them for better viewing.

Guess what?  I am sitting here completely sober.  I am loving it.

Half the fun of getting lost in something, is finding my way back to me.  Back to appreciating the little things.

That being said, we just found out that layoffs are coming.  I will find out more in the coming weeks.  It is set to happen before the end of October.  I will let you know what fate has befallen me soon.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.
