Subject: Lady Gamers and Controversy!
Time: 2:48:00 PM EDT
Author:  lcourtines

Seems over at Kotaku, a little blog war has begun.  It seems,  The Gamer Girl has taken offense to some of what the boys have been writing about her and is letting them know about it! The posts on Gamer Girl's blog are unfortunate, as it seems the boys our really giving her the business.  I feel bad for her personally,  but this is the web, and when you go up against the big boys,  you can get burned.  People feel really safe when they are at home or work and don't have to face anyone.

Well,  I am taking this little controversy as an opportunity to ask the public at large about girl gamers and their thoughts on them.  I think its great that woman play games and I am all for it.  I just love seeing a woman jamming out on her hand-held or showing up at the highscore on a puzzle game on our site.  What people don't realize is how many woman play computer based games!  They may not be console players (Playstation, Xbox, Wii) but play tons of online casual games.  Just go have a look on Games.com!

Let us know what you think about female gamers?  And if you are a woman feel free to give yourself a shout out as a "girl gamer"!

I'm a 24 year old girl gamer. I play Final Fantasy, SSX snowboarding for PS2, Grand Theft Auto. Me and my girlfriends have always gone back to the classics too on those nostalgic alcohol-flavored nights : Mario Kart 64, Rampage!, Super Mario Brother, Tetris, and Mortal Kombat!

I think it doesn't matter if girls play or not, because wether you are a girl or a guy you can still play games. All you need is finger, eyes, ears and a brain; I'm positive that both guys and girls have those.

I think girls that play games are a big turn on for me. Since I myself play video games, it makes being in a relationship less of a compromise. If my girlfriend played video games as much as I did, we would be much closer, and would be able to have more fun together since we'd play online when we aren't together.

The only thing I don't like is giving gamer girls special privelages. The "Girlz n Gaming" program at Full Sail: Real World Education in Florida allows girls who are interested in games to get a beginners class in game development, and they let them work with a basic video game making program. I can't take part inthis because I am a guy, and I think it is unfair that girls get a hands on experience of Full Sail before they even begin to think of college.

They may not be console players?

Too general of a statement to be honest.  In fact, most of the girls I know own at the very least an xBox, a PS2 and way more games than myself.  They've been gaming for years and some of them are among the best when it comes to hardcore gaming.

Not even listing console games, i'll list the following:  WC3, Diablo II, FFXI, WoW, PSO (ok fine - console mmorpg), UO (ultimate online), Guild Wars, CS (counterstrike baby!), UT2003, DOOM3, etc... etc...

Girls have been hardcore gamers for a very long time.  I guess no one bothered to notice.  But i've been playing with them for years.  You guys need to catch up or choke on the dust.  Gamer girls rock!
