MEXICO - Can President Calderon solve the drug problem and immigration issue?
Today the nation of Mexico is engulfed by major problems and this applies to drug cartels, illegal immigration into America, mass poverty, social inequality, corruption within the police force and government, and other major issues. Yet the most noticeable area of major concern is the drug problem and now more than 30,000 Mexican troops are fighting back against major drug cartels. However, can President Calderon solve these very difficult problems or is he doomed to failure?
To be fair to President Calderon, this problem existed long before he came to power and he is at least taking the game to the drug cartels. More than 30,000 military forces have been used to clampdown on drug cartels and inner police corruption which gave the drug cartels a free hand in the past. The risks are enormous and senior police officers have been murdered on the frontline and President Calderon must also fear for his life because these cartels have a lot of money to play with.
For America the stake is also very high because of severals factors which sometimes overlap. Of course a lot of illegal immigration into America is solely based on migrants wanting to work, however, some illegal immigrants are also adding fuel to the fire because they are being funded by drug cartels. Also, increasing poverty and divisions within parts of America`s south is fueling both nationalism and divisions. This means that drug cartels and illegal immigration is leading to mass tensions and poverty is being abused by criminals in order to bribe more people to join their forces.
The immigration issue alone is cause for concern because of several factors. Firstly, Mexico can not afford a brain drain, however, many of her highly educated nationals desire to move to America and this in turn will not help Mexico. If we go full circle, then Hispanic immigration is destroying many communities in America and many Americans are increasingly fed up because of several important reasons. These apply to higher crime rates, losing jobs, cultural changes are too rapid, abuse of tax system, and major divisions within respective communities.
Given this, many negatives are happening within America because all the positives of Hispanic immigration is being lost because of the new waves and motives of new immigrants is too much. Many Americans who reside in parts of America`s south fear that their way of life is under threat and that the imbalance is causing mayhem. Yet despite this, both the Republicans and Democrats have done little to help Americans who feel betrayed.
Then when we focus on law and order issues in Mexico it becomes even more alarming because drug cartels and criminals are destroying communities within Mexico. Therefore, the current cycle of violence is mere evidence that Mexico can not contain these dark forces. This inturn raises the spectre of chaos on both sides of the border and this inturn sets of alarm bells and leads to mutual tensions.
Overall, it is clear that President Calderon does desire to tackle these dark forces, however, this applies to drug issues and crime, and not immigration. Therefore, America must do more to protect her borders and of course leaders in America must put more pressure on Mexico to solve this mayhem. Also, funding must be given and joint ventures involving the police, military, and political leaders, must arise in order to force back the forces of evil and to stem the tide of illegal immigration. If both nations do not work together, then both will feel a backlash in the near future, however, for the people of both America and Mexico, they are feeling the reality of this terrible chao now.
