Rock City
The current Sunday Songs Photo Shoot is "Every Picture Tells a Story" by Rod Stewart.
Here's mine...
When I was growing up we spent our summer vacations with my mother's relatives in Tennessee. A special stop I looked forward to every year was Rock City. I loved that place and loved hearing my mother tell the same stories each year about going there with her mother. A few years ago I finally had the opportunity to take my own children there. It was during our first and only real family vacation. Of course, going there as part of my trip was very special to me. It's a beautiful place to see...
This is a photo of Lover's Leap (at Rock City). Legend states that a Native American Indian who loved a woman from a rival tribe was thrown from this lookout when his love was discovered. The woman leaped off afterwards to be with him forever.
For inquiring minds...
Evidence shows Native Americans did inhabit Lookout Mountain in the 1820s.
In 1932 Garnet Carter, who was also the inventor of miniature golf, opened Rock City as a tourist attraction.
Rock City will always be a special place for me. Have any of you ever been there or seen the famous old "See Rock City" barns?

Never did get to Rock City. Every time we drove to Florida we would pass a thousand See Rock City signs, then they would just stop, lol! Maybe one of these days....

So thats where that legend of Lovers leap came from? I had heard that story when I was a kid but never knew its origin. Beautiful but also tragic.

I was there once as a child. I remember the barns working their magic and the four of us kids NAGGING endlessly for my parents to stop. I really don't remember much about the place. Knowing my dad, he was probably trying to hustle us back to the car before we discovered the gift shop.
