Here's mine...
Here's the story to go with it...
We went to the Historic Venice Train Depot today. This past weekend was the Grand Opening of "The Legacy Trail" -- it's a recreational trail that runs the path of the old railroad, called the Rails to Trails Project.
Many years ago Venice was nothing but a railroad town. Now, there's no railroad running through at all. Last month I climbed up a high fence to get the photo that began this entry. When we went back today to check out the new trail, this is what we saw where the old bridge was...
I can't believe they tore it down! Since it's "The Legacy Trail" wouldn't you think they would leave some of the legacy behind? Maybe build a new bridge next to it or something?
We roller bladed down several different areas of the trail. None of the bridge areas were open yet. They were all fenced off, had danger signs posted and many had already been torn down. Some are still standing for now, but won't be once the renovation is complete. I definitely want to following every inch of that trail to photograph whatever is left before they destroy it all.
I'm just so disappointed that I didn't even know about the whole project until recently. I would have loved to walk and photograph things along the old railroad tracks. It's all long gone now, all replaced by a paved path...

That is a shame they tore down the old bridge and they should have incorporated the old rail into the new trail some how.... hope you are able to get more pictures....

I love when they use the old railways for trails but hate when they destroy the history in the process. I agree they could have put bridges next to the old ones.

i do think that is sad. I love public transportation and this was historical and they didnt need to tear it all down!! I LOVE YOUR PICS of it though.
